Just Wondering

It's too memory intensive. The best you can do is GPU mine it. Litecoin was built with ASIC resistance in mind. And looking back over the year it was probably for the best.

If the marketcap get's high enough, yes.

Nope, you can make ASIC for litecoin more effective than GPU. It is just about money, not worth yet  ;)

A company called Alpha Technology is working on one:

http://majesti.co/cryptonerd/new-scrypt-asic-miner-announced/

"- Each ASIC chip would perform at a minimum of 500 kh/s, at around ~20 watts. With multiple chips on a PCI-E card, prototypes can reach 5,000 kh/s @ 200 watts ,  10,000 kh/s @ 400 watts or higher. The price you pay for each device will be in ratio lower per khash than say an AMD 7950. This information may be subject to change."

Yeah right, Until I actually see one they're vaporware. Smells a bit fishy to me.

Eventually if the price is good, just need some expert to make one :)

No! Litecoin was designed to keep mining on a bog standard PC parts so everyone got a fair share of the coins.

It's the Communist version of Bitcoin  ;)

It does it by requiring lots of expensive memory for the calculations.

The only way to get ahead is use graphics cards with lots of memory. A 2Gb version of the same GPU will run more caluculations than the 1Gb version.

There might be one. If theres a huge interest in Litecoin. It would be expensive to make tho.

The first step will likely be an FPGA.

The second someone gets there they have enough "well defined" that an ASIC
is not too far off.

Many, many computing activities can happen in ASICs if they are well planned
and ASICs can most certainly work with large chunks of memory!

Remember the key part of ASIC means "application specific."   The only way to limit
the growth of ASIC potential would be to change the algorithm so frequently
that they can't get to tape out before you change the design again  ;)
