Exchanges including Okex, Poloniex, Coinone, and Hitbtc today suspended deposits of ERC20 tokens following the discovery of a batch overflow bug written into the smart ... By exploiting the bug, attackers can generate an extremely large amount of tokens, and deposit them into a normal address.

Question is how long has this already been ongoing before the bug discovery.

This is only a few ERC20 tokens, not all ERC20 tokens. I recharged some ERC20 tokens yesterday to sell, and bought some EOS. These are ERC20 tokens and they are completely unaffected.

things will be okay soon, we just need to wait some time for the issue to be fix.
We must not open any of our erc wallets.
myetherwallet will not let this continue.

Qryptos has reopened the deposit and withdraw access for the token erc20. this is good news hopefully there is more exciting news. I start worrying about holding some ERC20 tokens what if the exchanger will not accept the token?
this is very bad and I started thinking to sell some of my tokens.

When did they find out about this bug? With the ability to generate such large amounts, i'm surprised they didn't detect this immediately...

Because there is an error in ERC20's token right now.
So you can steal the token at will, so the exchanges are banned, but it's a terrible accident.

These hackers are sucker punches and sometimes wanna think really bad about it. I cant believe that things like this happen and I am so thankful that I dont keep my assets on the exchanger at all the time expect for the locked orders.

Is it gonna threaten those holdings or its just about the superficial virus or something? Anyone got the idea of in depth information whether it will do too bad inside the exchanger or not?

Certainly its very frightening and may be thats why most of the coins dumped in volume as they were not receiving any deposits since two days due to this suspension!

Not many erc20 coins are affected by this, this suspension is just temporary to investigate the issue. But bug has really ability to create financial problem in exchanges.

Almost 80% of my token are ERC20 and this is really a bad thing hope they can fix it soon so it cant affect big time on market price. I recieved some token last week that consider as spam of etherscan and this morning its gone so i think that was some of the bug they fixing.

Those hackers really get the ethereum messed up,this could be a bigger problem to the developers of each er29 tokens which might be the major reason why ethereum is being dumped as of the moment. The mew hack incident has affected most of the investor's mindset which is why its value has been decreasing ,though the issues were resolved theres no assurance that these hack attempts wont happen again.

I might be wrong. Are you sure EOS is an ERC20 token i thought they also have their own mainnet. I heard it is even an improvement to ethereum.

I couldn't deposit and withraw my ERC-20 tokens on OKEX due to this issue. Seems that majority of tokens will be dumped after this kind of problem, especially those suffering from this bug

Pretty good question. What if some have been doing this even before without out knowledge? I just can't imagine that this is possible. Can someone from us counter this hacking activity?

Almost all exchanges suspended ERC20 tokens movements.
This will drop Ethereum price too. On the other hand its very good for me cause i am holding a token and it was going to be listed on exchange today.
I hope its going to wait a little more to get listed.

The issue here is not about exchanges but with MEW as some hackers gained control of the site and drained several wallets by hijacking the site, these sort of hijacks are frequent now and it shows how vulnerable is the security, this is not a small children's game as the hackers were using highly power computers to carry out the attack and it is not an easy one and that brings us to the importance of having hardware wallet to store your coins.

I also heard this information today, all systems can be faulty, It is important to overcome the birth to minimize losses!

Isn't the issue solved already? It happened yesterday and some Exhanges suspended deposits for a short time, but as I know everything is fixed already. Though this ERC20 vulnerability is really unsafe. I hope all ICOs will inspect their smart contracts before issuing tokens.

These were temporary protective measures, now it is okay to hold ERC20 based transactions on these exchanges. No matter some people lost some money, if there was a major vulnerability, then exchanges did the right thing.

can anyone tell me if it is safe now to use mew? and when do some big exchanges plan to cancel the suspension of erc20 token from exchanging on their site? does this issue affects all of erc20 token?

Using Mew still not safe now, they not fully fix everything till now and i suggest you to use Eidoo wallet or Metamask for safety. Some exchange suspend withdraw erc20 because of Ethereum network bugs, so we must wait Ethereum team to fix this and you will be able to withdraw soon.

EOS is an ERC20 token https://etherscan.io/token/EOS  but the developer moved a step higher than the normal erc20 and that is why they are able to have their mainet and people can also create tokens from eos.

No system is extremely perfect without a loophole, it is nice that this is discovered at this time.

Now that there are too many bargains for ERC20 tokens, my wallet is stuffed with various ERC20 tokens, but they have almost no value, and some of them I regret that they were not able to sell them in time. Now they are worthless.
