Title: How can I possibly get my REAL account back?
Post by: jtylee on April 26, 2018, 07:01:38 PM
It looks like I was hacked around Oct 2017.  I had not logged in since 2014, and I've been trying for months now to reset my account.

The hackers must have changed my email address and secret questions... what can I do to get my account back?

It is "HottWeelz" and created back in 2012

You can see the two Oct posts were clearly NOT me ..also my profile links have been changed.

The time interval of posts in the account that you are claiming is too far to each other though and if it was really hacked why there are only 2 posts were only made by the hacker, in my own perspective it wasn't hacked at all(sorry for my skepticism) but let's just assume that it really was hacked then you must be needing an evidence for it to retrieve, just follow this guide (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0).

You will need to sign a message from an address associated with that account, so follow this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

And Pm theymos and a cyrus. If you post it here somebody can verify it.

You have one posted here:

I'll jump in a piece of that :)

Was there a hack back in October 2017 or thereabouts?  I've been seeing quite a number of accounts with gaps in posting from months to years ago, and ending in 10/2017.  You can tell the accounts are not being controlled by the original owner because of drastic changes in posting style and/or language.

The ones I've seen are now doing bounties and are shitposting in the altcoin section.  I did tag some of the ones I found, but I'm sure there are many more.

I think you're right and to be honest, given the first reply above, I've lost motivation (a la I don't care).   As for the PGP Signed Message with Bitcoin?  really?  I'll just use this account LOL.

I was just trying to clean up.  You'd think there would be an easier automated process like the rest of the world.

After some research, I just want to vent my opinion:

THIS SITE knows that accounts were hacked during the time period.  It was not a user account issue (my passwords are rock solid)

Yet I should pay BTC here to get the account back?  We all know how "Simple Machines Forum" works...

It's shameful that you'd ask BTC to perform an action that is a normal procedure anywhere else online.  Especially when we are not at fault.

Times have certainly changed since this site debuted years ago.
