Title: Hardware Safe (for mnemonic seed)
Post by: 21XO on April 26, 2018, 10:50:01 PM
Anyone know of any password safes and if they are secure? These are the only ones I've found:

I am not certain about them being safe as I am not that technical. However, I will say that I don't think you should be buying anything security related in regards to crypto from Amazon. I read a story about how somebody bought a Trezor from there (3rd party resell) and shortly thereafter they got hacked. Hardly a coincidence and if you are gonna go this route, I would buy directly from the source and I would make sure the seal hasn't been tampered with.

Always but straight from the actual company as any intermediary opens up risk of interference with the hardware wallet, which could completely undermine the security of the device. If someone is able to gain access to your device before you open they could activate it, and note the seed words rendering the device useless as they could gain your private keys from the seed. I have heard of this from Trezor and Ledger where people didnt know that the seed is not under a scratch card or pre-printed.

I've also heard that ledgers can have their hardware altered which means that they are no longer secure and are just a disaster waiting to happen.
Buy straight from Trezor keepkey ledger etc and pay for the piece of mind if it is more expensive.
