TBH , I think its a stupid rule... I can only assume this restriction is so the forum isn't flooded with spam or morons... but when its a legit user... its anonying as hell having to wait 4hours just to ask a question...

There's a post titled NEWBIE README at the top of the Newbies forum that explains this, along with a lot of other things you'll want to know before jumping it.  I just finished reading it myself, as I too am new to Bitcointalk, and it was very helpful.

Here my obligatory newbie post. Don't really understand why I need to do this for getting the permission to write.

Based on what I've seen, questions get answered here faster and more competently than on any other board.  :-*

According to the pinned NEWBIE README(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0)) you need to have made one post and waited 4 hours.

Hello world.

You can just browse around until you hit 4 hours + 5 posts.

It took me really fast to do that because Bitcointalk.org is really active, so many threads and posts are posted every minute.

I've hit the 4 hour mark but only just realised I need to post as well.
Is one enough or do I need to spam more?

My second post. Never bothered to post in this forum, but now I do because I want to add the BTC that is owed to me by Ukyo of Weexchange to the list at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=337523. Any newbies in the same boat?

I do not recommend spamming, please post constructive posts in the Newbies forum.

Well obviously I don't WANT to spam... where I really want to post is in the hardware auctions/ASICminer forum.
Anyone happen to know if bitmain will ship to Japan?

When can I post to other areas?

I'm glad I found this post. I thought either I wasn't authenticated or my account was broken.

Does the 4 hour browsing period start AFTER you make a post?
I've done plenty of browsing but I only realised I needed to post about an hour ago .....and so I'm still wasting away here in newbie prison  :-\

six minutes between posts..  is that also only a newbie thing?  Waiting a few minutes now to press enter....  Going to post my car for sale eventually..  Wish I would have created a login 8 months ago while I was creeping in the background.  opps lol

Yup, it's a limit for Newbies. Once you get out of Newbie jail, you get lesser wait time between posts. I believe I'm 60 seconds per post right now.

1 post & 4 hours of online time i think...

It is indeed just 4 hours after making the first post.

You can make a post, log out, and come back 4 hours later.

I've been waiting and waiting.  I didn't realize you had to post in the newbie area first.  Guess I should have paid more attention, huh?

I understand the 5 posts, but I think the 4 hours is a bit much. 2 at most I reckon would be good

5 Post is that much , and 4hrs online time is also reasonable , i think staff made this to reduce spam and also newbie like use give time to forum and get familiar with the rules :)

I had 7 posts and it took a little longer than four hours, took around 5. But never mind, once you've hit your quota you forget all about it

Now that you put it that way, I suppose that's fair enough. I have no burning questions yet but I suppose for someone who did, it'd be rather annoying.

Anyway, I'd also like to say 'Hi' to all of you. Looking forward to future interactions with you :)

Till then!

When can I post to other areas?

I'm glad I found this post. I thought either I wasn't authenticated or my account was broken.

Me too.  I’ve been here for years and was just waiting to get approved by time spent.

I thought maybe the time-logged-in difficulty kept going up and I’d have to just keep waiting longer because I didn’t get in soon enough.   :P

Good question! I would love to participate in discussions of Bitfunder going under (well, discussed, but not resolved)… If you've bitcoin there it can only be withdrawn to Weexchange, but good luck logging in there… Anyone have better news?
