Why is a FPGA better for mining than a GPU?

Primary reason, it's more geeky and hence more fun and nutritious for the mind and soul.

Long story short, FPGA's aint cost effective compared to GPUs for the average punter.

When the difficulty reaches high enough and electricity costs make it a complete loss to mine on video cards (operating cost), FPGA/ASICs will come into the picture.

It's going to be all about Mh/J by 2013.

Of course, we've yet to see what happens to Mh/J with 28nm (and lower, as they come out) GPUs.
