Title: Can someone lead me to the progress in MEW dns issues?
Post by: Stedsm on April 27, 2018, 05:52:05 PM
As you're all aware of the fact that the DNS for myetherwallet had been hijacked recently and that many users lost a lot of Ethereum due to this malicious activity by the hackers, can anyone here point me out what else can we prefer to use except MEW for the next few days until an update comes from them? I believe I'll never use MEW again as the site itself says that it's just for the sake of sending tokens and ethereum by using it as a medium, but if this happens again ever, we might end up losing all our crypto capital that we've gained after a lot of hard work.

Been looking for that update too which until now im not using up the wallet or inputting up my privatekeys yet we arent still sure if its totally safe as of now.Ive been observing if the site is already safe to be used base on user or community feedbacks. MEW itself doesnt make any announcement or any words that it do proves that the issue is already under control since we didnt able to see such thing we would really still hesitate on using up.

I thought this was Google's fault? The problem was on the DNS server and not on MEW. There was literally nothing they could do to avoid this attack.

Actually, they always warned everyone to always check for the SSL green text before the url (even before you access your wallet, there is a small tutorial that says the same thing). And if people followed their instructions, nothing would have happened to their coins. Or even better: download and run MEW locally. Bam! No way someone can DNS redirect you to a fake website.

Everything should be ok now.

Yeah the problem is not in MEW's code but the DNS servers. Besides running it locally, you can also use a hardware wallet and use MEW to access your ETH or ETC wallets. Your private keys stay in your hardware wallet and are always safe, but remember to confirm the address you are sending to in your hardware wallet's screen and MEW are the same.

Stedsm, you should take some time reading about the facts. MEW is still a good wallet.

is MEW safe to use? but the exchange like okex still suspends deposit and withdrawal for token erc20, for me this is really confusing.

Not much time ago, but 48 hours back i tried to help my friend Atriz to send eth from his wallet by seed words and my/his eth got hacked. I guess it was bread wallet problem but still i have 20% suspicion on MEW as i entered the seed there also but i was unable to login.
