I've been messing around with coin faucets for about 3 days now and have managed to come up on .50$ worth of Bit Coin.

Do any of you do the same? Is this a viable way to generate bitcoin?

Viable way? the best way would be to purchase it. They are really just for fun and to spread the bitcoin message around.

that's what im starting to gather as i search around more and more.
most fun is playing the game / gambling ones.
i guess it comes down to making the 700$ investment.

That would be up to you. But $.50 of bitcoin if BTC multiplied 100x in value your $.50 would only be worth $50

Treat faucets as a way to get involved with the currency, not as a way to profit. However, I imagine you wouldn't be disappointed if you were one of the first people to use a Bitcoin faucet where you would get more per "usage".

Yes now that was when Bitcoin faucets were handing out BTC that's worth a lot of money today!

I'm not really sure what a faucet is. I know one thing though, it isn't for any serious investor.  Those numbers are gravely deflated... =/

A faucet is a web site that gives away timy amount of bitcoins for free. Usually it involves completing some tasks.

I think a faucet is a neat little distraction every now and then. Plus the amount coming out now each offer something different which keeps things interesting. They aren't really worth it if you are trying to make any real profit though.

Also, ad-driven faucets are great ways of learning about available Bitcoin related services.

This is how I feel. People feel that BTC will go up in value hundreds of times, meaning that what we get now is worth a lot more. Faucets used to give full Bitcoins, for example. Then went down to partial, then to mBTC, then to parts of mBTC. Discounting ANY of a deflating currency is a bad idea I think. After all, there will NEVER be more than 21 million BTC, meaning the more pieces you have, the more you hold of something that will never increase in number.

FWIW, if you're doing faucets, you can hit up the Bitcoin faucet rotator (http://faucets.cryptoplace.net) to make the process much faster and easier than doing each one manually. It won't get you rich or anything, but it helps trivialize the process.

Exactly, because the supply is finite. Of course still all a risk even if you put $700 and get 1 bitcoin out of it. But with every little multiply of bitcoin value, it increases so much more depending on what you have.

it's a waste of time typing in numbers every hour so you can make $.0001 each time. for that measly .0001, you lose your dignity.

Faucet sites are just waste of time but they do help them who are totally new to btc and want few btc to start

I've visited a few since learning more about Bitcoin this week. At this point it is mild curiosity, and I'm not sure yet whether I will invest.

The problem with the low BTC amounts you get from free faucets (dust) is the huge % fee you have to pay when you sending the dust. It might be for new user bad experience with Bitcoin right from the start

I've been visiting Crypto's Place and others. Turnout is very (very) low, but it's sometimes fun to do. Mainly when your bored or waiting for something to finish :)

I used to run a bitcoin faucet myself. It ran for a few months, and i must say: the top visitors earned quite a bit. But then again it cost them a lot of time.

I made sure my faucet was break-even, so i maximised the user's earnings.
I don't recommend faucets to "make a profit". Just use it to get a little bit of bitcoin to play around with.

I really loved helping the bitcoin community this way, because it really helps beginners to discover bitcoin.

I plan on restarting my faucet, but i'm unsure about wether i can make it break-even this time. If not, i'll just lose my initial investment.

With 5$ /month I bet that less than even a part part half time work in Ethiopia.

You realize as somebody said before , it's something like "please give something for free?"

I hate faucets. they are not worth your time in the slightest. i sat there when i was at work doing all these tasks from 11am to 7 pm and made 0.00004000 btc -_- great huh? lol

at the beginning to earn bitcoin, i use it. but finally think that's worthless.. ;)

How so little? You earn more than that through a single run of my rotator in around 3 minutes, o.O. You're doing something wrong, lol.

I currently run a faucet , first the Myfaucet inputs.io faucet and now the Bandi MiniFaucet.
It's pretty cool, but it needs good ads to break even with lots of visitors.

Also i think if u add up all the faucets + btc bux type site's , you should be able to make a few mBTC, just not a lot.

3 days in and i have about 5 cents. once i can cash out those pennies. gonna cash out my pennies and call it quits.

No, not anymore.  The 5400 satoshi dust limit and fees make them somewhat problematical now.  When I first started in bitcoin the faucets were a great way to start to learn about it.  However, as a serious source of money, no, which makes sense once you realize they are basically giving away money in exchange for ads and have to overcome botters.

The sad thing is that as bitcoin continues to become more successful, the faucet payments have to drop.  Even the "pay to click" payouts have dropped dramatically.  Abitback even gave up on bitcoin cash outs.

Today about the best option seems to be those folks selling ad space in their signatures.  Good Luck!

They used to handout 1btc+ at each claim!!!

i know... but most faucet sites wont let u withdraw the btc untill you have reached a certain amount which would literally take weeks of your time.....

Definitely not worth it if it takes away from a real paying job, worth it thou if you like to just spend your time on the internet wasting much of your life looking at crap adverts. 

It helped me to get introduced in Bitcoin. It was fun to watch my account go from zero BTC to 0.1 BTC (was back in 2012). Soon after that I just bought a few. But ask yourself, is it worth your time to get paid 0.5 dollar in three days.
