i can not be considered as a successfull trader but i know a few thing that you need to do to cut your losses.
first you must have your own strategy, and put your position.
after you put your position,do not forget to use stop-loss order.
why ? because it's a tool to help you minimize the loss, insert your target into your stop-loss order and wait for it.
if the price goes down to below your level, the order will be executed.

Disagree with using stop loss order. Too many times my stop loss has been hit and then rebounds and as an adjustment I stopped doing that. Now I manually view the markets and don't carry more than 20 coins. If you have more coins than this perhaps you should use stop loss because it will be tough to keep track. If you have less than 20 coins, I feel like you can track them manually everyday and see which ones need cutting.

Stop loss order is very risky, you can end up with a bigger loss. For me the best way to cut losses is not selling or not doing panic selling. You should know the price you will sell if things go bad.

I think the only way out is to average out, just buy when the coin value hits the previous all time low or major support and average your investment and then it is upto you to close both positions at breakeven or wait for some profit.

I always set a drop level at which I cancel my orders and sell at current market price (unless apart from short term signal coin also shows min-term growth).

I think holding long term will help cut your losses. Coins will drop down -50% or so sometimes, but eventually bounce back up. Key is to hold them for longer than a year or more. Eventually they'll get you into profit. That's when you sell. But, you can't buy into coins that aren't worth anything and expect to do well. You can't polish a turd into gold.

Don't stop loss unless you know what you're doing and have all the risks factored in. Just earlier today, some whale dumped 21 million in BTC which filled a ton of stop losses and he rebought 60 million in BTC right after for cheap.

This caused BTC to go from $9500 to $8750 and back to $9500 in under a minute.

This is right, but if we're talking about the amount dedicated for trading - allowing it to be stuck in positions for long term isn't always an option as you may end up with no free BTC to trade with.

if you think that you can not cope with the crypto currency or with your losses, it is better to invest your money in a real business or where you have more experience.

I do not use stop loss, it depends on the market how I cut my losses, if I think it will decrease more, I will sell it to buy at lower price, I know that is not always good way but it depends on the situation.

My strategy is not to consider what price I bought a coin at, because that is in the past and does not matter. I simply always ask myself if it's a good time to sell or not, sometimes that means selling at a loss, often times at a profit. The price you paid for a coin is irrelevant.

You obviously don't want to end up in a situation where you have to close a position while still in a loss, to begin with.

To me, when you're trading altcoins you want to be extremely disciplined. The altcoin market itself is ever volatile, however, as a trader you need to have clear goals in mind before you even open a new position, or buy a new coin/ICO.

Have a clear sell target in mind where you will sell half of your stash, and another target where you will sell all of your stash.

Same for stop loss, set a target where you will sell half of your position to avoid further losses, and another one where you will sell off all of your position to cut losses. And all of this should be done before you even buy into anything.

But in this current market, I think that holding onto your coins may actually be more profitable in the long run, since crypto is still growing. Don't set the stop loss targets too high, otherwise you'll end up losing money unnecessarily.

only patience will be able to change everything, for example if you suffer losses because prices arrive pity fall then keep holding until the price recover or you can sell your coins and then buy other coins that have a higher potential increase to overcome the previous losses.

I believe that this thread will help you if you want to cut your loss in trading.
There are many ways to stop your loss in trading, one of this is what we called the stop-loss order but I don't think it is helpful anytime specialy if we can manage all of our coins. We can also hold our coins and wait until the price will bounce back.

sell when the circumstances have not been a huge loss and hold for the long term. both of these solutions is the way that it could be done however with the respective risks as well. If selling is certainly a loss but not a lot. If hold necessarily takes time to recover.

To cut your loses in trading you should know when to stop. Puting a limit on how much can you lose in trading should one of the rules that you need to put while trading. Being greedy is also not good since it will make profits to more loses as you would want to get back what you have lost or get more profits. One should know that there are days when trading crypto is not good as there days when you will just lose in every transaction that you make.

This is why every trader needs to learn Limit stop loss.
If you buy a coin but then it goes down, you already set up a stop loss 5% in the bottom.
This is why your loss will not be more than 5% or even more.

Every trader has its own strategy, and you should find the best that suits to you.

In the time when the market rate falls sharply, the simplest way to cut losses and preserve my capital is to exchange to USDT then hold. Because USDT is stable at $ 1. Alternatively, it is possible to transfer for potential cryptos as ETH and BTC are also a way to avoid losses if you are holding altcoins.

I am more likely to change it to ethereum because usdt hardly ever experienced a good movement as an asset. If my assets are going through a strong decline, I have to change my mind to see it as a long term, I keep looking for potential sources like ICO and try to focus on potential short-term coins.

Yap, cryptocurrency trading and other trading is not the same. Cut loss maybe good way in other trading like forex but its not good decision when we have cryptotrading. Stop loss will just make our capital down and down. Sometime after touch our stop loss then the price rebound specially for good coin. If you invest in well known coin, stop loss is not good suggestion.

The market now is more difficult to trade in because it is continuously going up and down. I suspect there are more experienced traders entering the market, like the ones migrating from the stock exchanges. To cut your losses, buy back when it hits the bottom so future gains will counter those losses

" i hav3 been 8 years as trader starting in forex trading i always recover my lost with averaging and when i entering crypto trading i never use laverage so i never get forced to cut lose. Spot trading is better for me because i wont lose on every trade even i buy at peak i will hold the coin as long as i still trust it and wait for coming back to my buying spot.

Holding your coin would be only applied into cryptocurrency trading which you cant done those moves into forex trading and i do see this as an advantage.A successful trader can be classified as a profitable one but it doesnt mean they do able to cut losses anytime where the prices goes to opposite ways this is why theres a stop loss which is really advisable anytime. If you do have a habit on taking up some percentage stop loss then you can really minimize loss.

There are several advices and methods to avoid a loss that may be small or large scale, and in my opinion who are we to point a north with extreme certainty and the maximum we can do is calculate a situation to try to prove some theory. Particularly I usually observe my day in general or week, when I come one day, bad and stressful week does not have the why and proper to trade indenpendently from the current market this will only bring disruptions and frustrations.

An entry and exit points must be set even before the trade is executed. This points must be attribute to some conditions sets by the trader. The rest is to focus on those conditions. With this ,you can cut your losses short as soon as those exit points is triggered.

I am not yet a successful trader but I aim to be one. One thing I do so that I can prevent further losses is to have a trading plan always. I cut my loss when  it reach 10%. I don't want to wait for long and I saw some coins dip as much as 90% so to avoid further losses, I would just cut it when it reach that price. I have a risk reward ratio so even if I cut my losses, I would just wait for it to settle in a possible support and go in range and then find a good entry price. I know that others may advise not to sell because it is just unrealized loss but I don't intend to wait that long. I am not just a long term hodler.

Always have to have a plan for each trade. if its not going your way, your stop loss would be if you spotted a trend change. For example a long term trend candle closes above the previous one.

Good question. This is something that i have always struggled with as someone who is learning how to trade. It is always easy to buy low and hope to sell high because when it comes down to it you just need to wait for your profits to be realized and there is always A CHANCE that it will happen. However, when you cut loss, you already give up and forfeit any and ALL chances at earning profits.

So my opinion is to always buy with a long term perspective and invest in coins that you truly believe in. This will lessen your headache and indecision whether to cut loss or not.

If you set table and money frame I don't see you'll be having a big loss at all, just set for a capital to start then start trading 💹 if you gain something until you doubled your capital then save the gain, then start over again, just remember the amount of your capital this is the amount you can risk to loss... More than that is no, stop and have a break first then start all over again.

I'm not an expert trader and I do day trading only. I join trades that are active by that time and ride with the up and down. Once you felt the trades are slowing down better get off and sell at profit. Whales play at trades and I just ride with them and get off with btc on my balance, not alts coz whales usually go to next coin the next day.

If you are right trader you must analyse the past chart also every year first three to four months all the cryptocurrencies are down in the market but this year still fluctuating. So it is your responsibility 2017 also cryptocurrecies are fluctuate in first four months so don't compare to past data. We should predict the future possibilities then only you will make success in future trading.

play long term. I've been applying it more or less two years and am very satisfied with the results. by playing a clear long term risk of loss will be getting smaller due to the development of prices of the coins rise very high. though many doubted but the result I already feel themselves especially in the bitcoin and ethereum.

Hello guys please can we share our view as a successful crypto trader how do you cut your loss short??

Before trading takes place, read a lot of things about the coins you want to trade and the coins you want to acquire. You must know how the market moves and plays as of the moment in order to cut your loss. And there are also times you won't have any loss as time goes by particularly when the green days come or the next quarters of the year.

I am not a great crypto trader maybe, but I can clearly say that do not take huge risks with huge amounts. Also, in my way of thinking, panic sell never cut your loss.

In my opinion, being cold-blooded is very important to prevent losses.

sell your crypto as soon as possible when the markets is going down deeper, and buy again in the bottom
so, you can collect more your crypto again in the bottom price
this will minimiza your loss and you will get more profits too, when the price is rising  ;)

This can only be done by people who already have experience in trading.
need the courage to buy back, we do not know the lowest price so do not all in. prepare backup.

Successful traders have many techniques to limit losses. One such way is just the trading discipline to set orders to sell if it goes below say 1% or a set price they have in mind that then they would think about reevaluating their next trade. If they can make 5 good trades and 1 bad one, each with 1%, well then they'll be far ahead.

Another is dollar cost averaging if they still feel like their position is right but the market is moving against them.

Loss is a part of a trader life and we have to accept it anyhow that its inevitable.
One of the ways to secure profits or at least minimize losses in this volatile market is to use STOP-LOSS functionality given on various exchanges.
Since crypto market dumps out of nowhere ,stop-loss make sure to get out of a position and buy the coins at lower price to break-even.

can't  :'( I am not a succesful trader, but I can as a bad trader tell you lots of stories how I make loss. Since most coins are now very cheap compared to 2017 I scare to trade.
it seems that the trapped buy at the end of 2017 not just me, because I also suffered losses because the current price is not also up, and it makes my capital stuck until now. and I will never sell it as long as it still makes me lose

It seems to me that even a professional and successful trader may not have time to react to real market changes. But nevertheless, you should not give your coins for cheap, because this will no longer be professionalism. It is better to wait out the whole situation.

If you are a trader you want to cut short holes, then you should invest in different areas and spread them out, while the condition you apply short-term strategy and the contrary depending on tactics. so you will make cut your loss short
I do trade in different area. I won’t wait for the lowest point to buy, I always buy several times at different price. Then sell them at different price.
Without analyzing the previous statistics and performance of an asset, it is impossible to understand its future by just looking at the present. This is what is not only significant for traders but holders too. Traders are supposed to be more active than simple investors as they must have a good idea of fluctuations. This will help them in making right decision at right time. They understand market in a much deep way.

In order to be successful at anything not just crypto, you have to have a discipline and follow the market rather than going against it as some people do. Always use stop loss function when trading short term that is the best way to make sure you don't lose too much of what you have. Follow the market not your personal reaction to it. Look at yourself as the mirror and market is the person who is looking at the mirror. Reflect what it does.

For me to cut my loss, what I do is to buy when the market is very low and then hold on a long term at least a year or two. Though the market price will fall at some point but I know it will definitely rise and by the time I decide to sell, it would have multiplied and then I will be able to sell at a price higher than the initial and then make profit.

I'm not too much of a trader but whenever you make a trade you need to have two numbers in your head, the price at which you are willing to take your profits and the price at which you will take your losses, set your trade and then forget about it for sometime, if you got your prediction right and the price went up you could readjust those numbers based on what you see on the market, but if you were wrong then sell immediately once it reaches the price at which you were going to sell.

Longterm is the wise way to minimize the risk and loss. If you don't want to have loss, then don't trade in cryptocurrency, because loss is part of trading.

I think almost traders often cut their loss after price dumping about 10%. For me, I'll not cut the loss if I'm holding a good cryptocurrency, I'll try to become a holder as long as possible till price of these cryptocurrencies rise back to price that I want to ;D. But seem like I'll have to hold till the end of this year at least ;D

Nice input mate, Thanks for sharing. I will try to follow your strategy as I'm also learning how to do day trading but I'm afraid to take a risk as losses will always there considering the market situation and I hope that I can master this and gain profits soon.

though there are strategies out there, What really works for me is the basics. Buy low and Sell high. Plus set your stop loss. It will always be wise to buy at a low value and set a specific amount where you exit, Best apply when taking your profit and when the market falls. but before it all read news and forecast about the currency your investing on.

When in a losing position, we will often rationalize that we still haven’t taken the loss as long as we haven’t sold while hoping the stock will come back. So very important to cut your losses while they’re still small because more difficult to recoup your money after a loss. Well given the fact that even the best of the best traders usually have a long-term win and loss ratio of 50:50.

Do not panic sell, hold, price will go up sooner or later. Do not buy all time high. Choose good projects, coins. And you will not need to cut losses. If price goes lower than your predicts, then you can buy same amount at bottom, to reduce loss.

It is important to remain calm and not give in to emotions in the case of a losing trade. It is necessary to fix the result. a failed transaction, analyze the reasons that led to such a result. And in the future, such mistakes are not allowed. It is best to stick to your strategy, comply with money management, and enter the market on time. in no case should you try to recoup the moment .

Everything depends on the coin and the situation on the market. With different market conditions and different coins, the actions will be different. So, for example, if you have an ether, which you bought for $ 1000, and now it costs $ 500, you can proceed as follows:
1. Do nothing. The coin is excellent and later it will grow in price.
2. If there was a need to sell it, say $ 600, then, as soon as the price falls below this mark, you need to buy ether several parts. Let's admit on 550, 500, 450, 400 $ and so on. The largest purchase should be at the lowest possible level. And in order to make it easier to predict the price, you need to know the technical analysis and be aware of the main news in the world of crypto currencies. And when the price grows, then sell at the mark you need. This option is risky, but there are situations when it is possible in this way to reduce losses. In general, I use this option for profit, but sometimes they can be used for other purposes.
3. If the loss has taken place, then it can be minimized by selling other coins that are now profitable.

Don't overtrade, don't trade on margin. The latter is gambling because, despite the claims of some people, those extreme moves up and down are almost unpredictable, and on margin, you're likely facing drastic consequences.

That's only true for people who do not know how to properly margin trade thro. If they can't cover their positions in the event of black swan events, then they shouldn't be trading at all!

i can not be considered as a successfull trader but i know a few thing that you need to do to cut your losses.
first you must have your own strategy, and put your position.
after you put your position,do not forget to use stop-loss order.
why ? because it's a tool to help you minimize the loss, insert your target into your stop-loss order and wait for it.
if the price goes down to below your level, the order will be executed.
Disagree with using stop loss order. Too many times my stop loss has been hit and then rebounds and as an adjustment I stopped doing that. Now I manually view the markets and don't carry more than 20 coins. If you have more coins than this perhaps you should use stop loss because it will be tough to keep track. If you have less than 20 coins, I feel like you can track them manually everyday and see which ones need cutting.

your stop loss is to tight. spread it out maybe 10-20% below

Remember that the thing that makes crypto attractive is the thing that might hurt it the most: lack of a central authority that can be trusted, like a bank.
But, keep your chin up: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and learn from this experience to come out a stronger, more diligent investor.
For instance, investing with solid technologies and team and being skeptic of *every* claim that projects make.
The positive thing is that there are so many good and promising projects out there. If you are willing to weather the storms then placing your trust in a solid product like Gifts, Rentberry, and even the upcoming Eterbase you will sleep easy and have financed a great product with growth potential.

You should put a stop-loss and some profit taking levels when you start your trade... For example stop-loss at -5% and profit raking at 5%, 10% and 15%...
If the price go up you should move also the stop-loss up (keeping it -5% of the current price)

Cutting your losses is not really that hard what you need to do is to always watch the market and set a reasonable floor, some prefer to see the charts to see where the floor of the price could be, but some others prefer to set an absolute floor, like you are only willing to lose 10% in each trade you make, this is something a beginner will do but it is better than doing nothing and see how all your capital evaporates due to a dump in the price.

Yes you are right with that. I'll share my plan, if I go for short trade first do technical analysis then I set 8%-10% stop loss then 10%-20% profit is good for me and for long term do technical analysis then position I don't have a cutloss here because it is for long term then sell 50% of my holdings when got 100% profit, 25 % on 1000% profit and 25% which is the remaing when 10000% profit gets hit.

I am not a successful trader, my strategy in cutting losses is not to sell at loss. If my coin price keep dropping, I will just hold on to the coin. That is if I have confidence in the coin.

Actually it seems to be time for release, but suddenly it's hard to say. At Altco's you can make a bit of effort to wait, maybe you can bring some profit. The markets were not able to make the expected splash.

Being a trader, I am very much particular about stop loss. You should know when to leave your trading position as market is pretty uncertain. You can only recognize changing trend, if you understand technical analysis. Whether to keep tight or lose stop loss depends upon you understanding of a particular coin. You should try to maintain risk-reward ratio when it comes to successful trading.

It seems to me that you need to invest in several projects, and this will give the best results unambiguously. Many users hold about 10 names of coins in their portfolio.

The reduction of losses is reduced to the constant fragmentation of assets into various coins, to reduce the risks, it is also impossible to do without timely receipt of information through the channels of foreign resources, for example, in Telegram.

I can not stop loss at this point, the more I cut, I find myself stupid because I know this market will never collapse and it will go further. So the best way in this stage is to hold them, when the market is called stabilization. You can cut hole with lowest possible level.

i can not be considered as a successfull trader but i know a few thing that you need to do to cut your losses.
first you must have your own strategy, and put your position.
after you put your position,do not forget to use stop-loss order.
why ? because it's a tool to help you minimize the loss, insert your target into your stop-loss order and wait for it.
if the price goes down to below your level, the order will be executed.

Stop loss order is very risky, you can end up with a bigger loss. For me the best way to cut losses is not selling or not doing panic selling. You should know the price you will sell if things go bad.

All traders come up with losses but to cut it shortly prior in good condition well i think as successful trader must choose for the best way to scape those lapses in orther to obtain good profit and go far beyond the losses.
and we know that every user has there own way of strategy that beyond by others with or without experience will be the own strategy would give satisfaction by end.
just to think twice, read, understand and learn what you've done.

The most well - known and no less effective way is risk diversification. What it means is not to invest in one cryptocurrency, but to invest in a group of cryptocurrencies, which will make it possible to avoid large losses in the event of the fall of one of the cryptocurrencies in your investment portfolio.

Any successful trader has several sources of crypto-currency income, if any of them happens to be a drawdown, you need to normalize the picture by pouring part of the capital from another, but in no case do not go all-in.

When it comes to trading you should always have an exit strategy even before you make a trade, you need to set an amount of money that you are willing to tolerate to lose during that trade and once you lose more money than that you need to cut your losses and move on, I know that a lot of people do not like to think about this but if you do not think about the worst case scenario then you will not be prepared for it.

No smart trader will even go all in on a single trader as that on its own shows someone who is less knowledgeable and simply does not have any clue on how to trade the market. Asides trading, there is always what is referred to as money management and the rule usually is not to trader more than 5% of your capital on a single trade, which at times can preferably be 2%. Stopping loss is all based on one's strategy and strategy is one thing a trader does not want to not have when it comes to trading.

Well I'm not a really successful trader I guess (depends on the definition of this word) you should be patient and never sell if you fear.
That actually shows you are an inexperienced trader. Being patient and being good at what you do are totally what is important.

If you want to be investing long term, then patience may suffice for you but for a trader, there is absolutely nothing like patience, there is just strategy as what you are simply doing is taking advantage of the market fluctuation for your own gain. Have a strategy, buy when you feel your strategy play out, sell in the same vein, and cut loss at least before the bounce at the point where your strategy played out.

A strategy is a must especially in this market that is so volatile, if you make the right trade you can easily earn a lot of money like what happened with ripple during this day but if you are in the wrong end of a trade you can be destroyed with just one trade and you do not want that, so you will need to set a limit to the amount of money that you are willing to lose.

It's difficult to cut losses this fast few days due to the price value in the market, but before through selling it and trying to do buyback when the price falls help in cutiing some losses or by buying other potential coins that have chance to arise quickly.

everyone doesn't like cutting losses and if the loss is still 20% then I will do it. but if the loss has exceeded 30% then I keep holding it and I will wait until it falls and after the lowest price is reached then I will buy it more. because if there is a small or large pump I can sell everything right away.

I'm not really a successful trade, sometimes I also lose in trading. But here's my point of view on how to cut your loss. Firstly, if you want to hodl that coin for a long term run don't cut your loss just let the coin freely move, forget about him about a year and see the result after that. And for day trading I cut my loss, always use stop loss when you trade for long term. I go with 5%-10% stop loss.

I did this before when someone suggested it to do. You can cut your losses by buying other alts stable coins (USDT) or not.  While others are buying alts to recover their losses.

just make your trading plan and follow it, if you entered into the trade, then just follow your plan. If you put a target for the profit, just close it at that level or take a risk and take your initial investment back.
According to the stop loss, if you set up a stop loss, when it is close to that level, just be brave to analyze the situation, if the trend does not look good, just close it and try to return the loss in the next trade, better than just holding a loss in your portfolio for long term.

Maybe portfolio investment, means making a purchase, not just one coin but a few crypto coins in a certain proportion. In most cases, the portfolio usually consists of several coins in it. For example: Ethereum (40%), Litecoin (30%), Eos (15%), Cardano (10%), and Monero (5%). I think this kind of approach can minimize the risk of loss in or complete loss of funds.
