Title: Bitstamp requiring verification for BTC withdrawal?
Post by: ZephramC on November 22, 2013, 06:25:50 PM
Hallo,
I have some bitcoins on Bitstamp. Maybe I missed something, but since when do you need verified account (hi-res scan of ID card, proof of residency, etc.) for Bitcoin withdrawals (and also for deposits)?
I remember that withdrawal of fiat needed verification, but not the deposit of fiat (you disclose your account number this way anyway). And requirement of such strict verification for bitcoin transfers (both ways) seems very unusual to me. Is this for real or is this just some temporary "error"?

Bitstamp has been like that since September.
You should be able to do it on BTC-e tho. Also you can deposit fiat there without verification (if you accept the 30-day money hold when using wire transfer)

They announced this change in advance. They gotta comply with the law as it looks like it's shaping up to be.

I ran up against the same thing not long ago.  Bitcoin hit a certain point where I thought it was sure to take a dip soon, and I wanted to make a sale and keep some fiat on an exchange.  I hadn't actually used Bitstamp in awhile, and discovered I was unable to do so because I was not verified.

Sure enough there was a brief dip that day, but I missed it.  Oh, well.

How is it legal to announce a terms of service change without asking users to a)accept new terms, or b)withdraw money without verification and close account? If you put bitcoins into bitstamp under an old ToS, what if they just suddenly changed the ToS to include a 10% daily holding fee? Without telling you? Ridiculous.
