Title: Views on AlternatePool.com ?
Post by: talvivaara on November 23, 2013, 04:32:06 PM
Is this for real? Anybody lost their hashes or received substantial rewards, or any other experiences?
There was 0 results for it on these forums and even Google didn't seem to find any further info about the site.  ::)

I started mining there earlier today. Haven't received a payout yet, but everything seems to be working ok. I think I'm going to switch to middlecoin though, as it has more support on this forum. I'm planning on doing 24 hours at each and comparing the results.

I recommend HashCows if you're not mining LTC :) There's a lot more detail into what they mining and when it gets sold/paid out on the main stats page. Middlecoin turned me off b/c it's such a black box, really no information.

Maybe AlternatePools is being managed by Bigvern, the webmaster of Litebonk.com, FCPool and Cryptsy exchange.

It's in his tweets.

U can ask him about it.

I tried to go to one of Bigvern's old pools and it redirected me to http://alternatepool.com/

Then did a whois on the domain and it does belong to him so it's probably pretty good.

I am going to try it now.

It's a cool idea not know what coin you are mining, that way if he gets enough users he can do a pretty awesome 51% attack with it.

I can't connect to Alternatepool, anyone having same issue?

Same here (for more than 3 or 4 days now, I think). It worked for me two days ago, but after restarting miner it's not working again.

It's a little annoying as I have some unpaid btc on some addresses there. Until this problem pool was fine. Almost no info on your progress, but working and paying ok.

EDIT: sent a message via site form, but with all the crazy stuff happening over cryptsy I doubt he'll notice. This would be my second email message, first was ignored.

This pool is dying anyway... went from 200 Mhs to less than 20 Mhs now.
The guy behind it should sort connection issues...

It worked really well the first time i connected for it (for about a hour), then the second time i did 8 hours and got 1/4th of the amount.

After that I could not even connect to the pool, and sent to support messages and got no reply.

Is there an official cryptsy thread on this forum? Could not find it, otherwise we could move our concerns there, as it's bigvern's pool.

I saw the pool dropping from 19Mhs to 2mhs then 0 yesterday. It's dead for the moment.

Owner should pay out to everyone then. I'm sure he CAN afford it.

Goddamnit. Had to restart miner pointed to this pool and as a result - cannot connect again. Hashrate dropping again. Either they are doing that on purpose (who in a right mind...) or they need to get their shit together.

12 active miners left...

Pool owners are streaming minecraft / sharing porn torrents on login server?

stuck at 0.005 and 0.001 BTC :/

Will it count as scam/fraud if pool owners close the pool and keep non-withdrawn balances?

Too bad they are not active / don't give a fuck about this forum.

still no connection, although the pool hashrate rose to about 9 MHashes/s and the number of miners also rose.

Why do I have the feeling, that if I'll try to connect with different IP and username(btc address) it will allow me... (if yes - then it would be a total scam)

Too busy to try that at the moment.

no, but i tried multipool.us with auto-trade @cryptsy and it was about 50% of revenue, don't know why...

Do u have any positive result? I tried to mine there for some hours and have no "Earnings Today" or "Unpaid Balance".
I just noticed that everyone has no earnings today and it is 16:48 CET.

My explanation would be that the pool needs to trade the mined (scrypt) coins to BTC, which obviously hasn't been done yet. Also there are some coins that take more time to mature, so maybe thats why we don't see any earnings today yet.

But i'm waiting for it too here ... can't remember that it took so long the last time when it worked :/

i will wait another day and if no earnings appear, switch pool... again(!)

I've compared this to hashcows pool, this gave better results.
Probably because pool owner has huge advantage over other multicoin pools being a cryptsy owner I guess.

haven't seen any payout since then!

I would not advise anybody to mine there as there are no payouts since at least a week!

Does somebody know a similar Pool, which can be mined at port 80?

Well anyway, now with middlecoin hashrate, alternatepool is rather pointless...

wow, thanks for pointing that out. Did not hear about that pool before. Just as I wanted to point one of my miners elsewhere to increase variance. I wonder how will these two compare in a long run. Alternatepool has better options at the exchange in theory still.

UPDATE: looks like pool stopped adding to people's balanses. I'm stuck at 0.95 and 0.8 for more than a day or two now :/

Title: Re: Views on AlternatePool.com ?

alternatepool's fixed difficulty at 512 is just too high for mortal gpu owners.

right now there is only 14 active miners and an incredibly low pool hashrate of 1.78 M/h
i'm hovering around 3rd/4th fastest miner at only 0.168 to 0.224 range M/h

the pool is a complete waste of time if it isnt going to find any blocks (lack of total hashrate.)
the pool is also a complete waste of time if it switches to a rapidly moving altcoin because
no mortal gpu will ever get an a submitted share before the next block comes up.

they really need to lower the diff level and get more people regularly using the pool.

really, 512 for *scrypt* ?

Don't bother, there are other, much better pools now.

Middlecoin, or if you're into selling you coins yourself - multipool.

Title: Re: Views on AlternatePool.com ?
Post by: gybigp on May 13, 2014, 12:25:38 PM
Yup, lot better pools available.  Not sure what BigVern did with all the unpaid accounts when he changed to mining with the cryptsy key.  I never got my payout.  There were a few hundred people on the list of inactive users that had unpaid accounts and now none of those show up.  There was more than once I mined for a couple weeks with never seeing a penny.  The last time I had several million accepted shares accepted.  Stay away from there.  BigVern never answered of the messages I left either.

Smartest thing that scammer has done - was to avoid these forums as much as possible. And the fact that pool had no contact info surely helped.
