Title: [2018-04-30] Someone wrote a kids' book to explain bitcoin and blockchain
Post by: nickbelski on April 30, 2018, 07:34:17 AM
Welcome to 2018 and a children's book that teaches us how to find our place in the world... using the blockchain.

At around 7 p.m. every night you can catch me reading bedtime stories for my two children. On current rotation: Dave's Cave, a weird Avengers book and a million bedtime stories about dinosaurs.

But those books can go straight in the trash because finally -- finally -- someone has written a children's story about the blockchain.

Meet Blocky.

Blocky is the main character in A Place in the Blockchain, a children's story designed to explain blockchain and bitcoin technology to kids. It's the creation of Brett Biery, a software developer and blockchain enthusiast.

You can download it for free on Amazon. (https://www.amazon.com/Place-Blockchain-Brett-Biery-ebook/dp/B07C9TSMCR)

From the book's Amazon page:

"A Place in the Blockchain is a picture book for children about a character named "Blocky" struggling to find it's place in the blockchain. Blocky's adventure to discover his place in the blockchain covers many of the same emotions childrens will experience as they deal with their own adventures of fitting in at school and with friends. In the end Blocky is able to find his place. "

According to Biery's Reddit post A Place in the Blockchain is meant to be "a fun tribute to the technology" that helps explain blockchain technology using words children will understand.

I think it is good to start them young since I believe that the youth of today is our future. Being so, there is a need to pour over all the knowledge there is to empower the youth to become experts at it- and soon, thereafter, we all are able to harvest the fruits of our labor. As adults, we are under responsibility to inculcate upon the youth the wisdom to make a difference and to better the world through knowledge, skills, and expertise. While having all these is no guarantee to a good future, they sure will be guided by these principles wherever life may take them. And just so we can relate this to what is IN today, I think it is very important to lead them to where we are heading- and yes, I am ecstatic about the evolution that is to take place.

Well, this is really useful, not only for children, but also for them who barely can speak English, they can understand it and, by the way, learn some basics concepts in the language.
I think this is really useful to share the book in the Begginers & Help board so they can get some basics and learn how to explain themselves in a more accurate way.

Blocky?

Just hope it does not go the way of Clippy of Microsofts offering in trying to make their technology cute.
But it is focused towards children because they label it as a kids book and not for beginners in the blockchain.

I think they can make alot of money if they make these into a plush doll and sell them in different colors.
I know I would probably buy one for my kids for christmas.
Just so to get them onto the blockchain phenomenon from what IBM has been doing running it in their commercials lately.
So to get these "beginners" on to it being the big buzzword around the world.

I believe Blocky has a long journey to teach them kids about cryptocurrency. That is really a great thing as a beginning. As a matter of fact, kids need to learn about blockchain and other related stuff at their age. And the easiest way is teach them through books and images. If I am going to get married and have kids, downloading crypto books will be my first option. Not only for my kids, but also for my future wife.
