Title: gpu overheats due to mining
Post by: legili on August 05, 2011, 11:09:51 PM
so i have been mining bitcoins with my gpu on and average of 28 mhash/s
(a geforce 9800 GTX plus) back in the days it was the fastest available...

however i noticed the temps can really run up high (85 degrees centigrade) causing my pc to shut down for security reasons...

my hdd also runs up to high tempratures, i am goign to buy some fans however i want to make sure my pc caps it's capacity when it reaches certain tempratures (hdd 48 degrees gpu 80 maybe even less...)

maybe anyone of you knows a good programme for capping it's capacity at higher temps...

It's a waste of time and effort mining 28 Mhash/s.

Dont waste your time, If your making less then 100MHash/s your losing money.

Unless, of course, he keeps his Bitcents and the price of Bitcoin skyrockets to $xxx or $x,xxx or $xx,xxx.  But then again, buying is so much easier, and spending is the American way.

put a heat shield between your gpu and hard drives.  Look at your GPU's clock and bring it down.  Open the side of your case and see if it helps.

I have the same card.

My gpu temp went to 143 degrees!

Not recommended for mining.

I agree with NizeGuy and bmgjet, you shouldn't mine with such a card. If you still want to mine, consider downclocking your card with a tool like MSI Afterburner

Get an electricity meter, because I don't think it is profitable now that the market has tanked.
