Title: Setting up my rig for mining. GPU questions.
Post by: bitjet on February 14, 2011, 09:19:14 PM
Current specs:
win7
Intel i5
3gb ram
1tb+ space
I currently have a gforce 7600.

Im going to upgrade to a Radeon 5870.

What sort of return (block/week) should I expect on the 5870?

Can I run cpu in pool as well without degrading my gpu mining performance?

Last but no least, this is the card I am eyeballing.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103084&cm_re=5870-_-14-103-084-_-Product

Thoughts? Should i go with another brand?

Thank you!

http://www.alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator.php

5870 = ~325 million hashes per second. input that into the calculator.

So a block every 4-5 days? I was under the impression it would be a bit faster. hmm

What sort of return (block/week) should I expect on the 5870?
11 BTC per day in pool before next difficulty step (expected in 3-5 days). Then 30% less.

Can I run cpu in pool as well without degrading my gpu mining performance?
There is no point in doing so. Overclocking 5870 just a 1-3% will be more noticeable than all your CPU power.
5870 crunches at 320-350 Mh/s depending on core frequency and your CPU will give only 2.4-4.5 Mh/s.

Im actually getting 10-11mh/s on my cpu.

I run a cpu miner on my phenom X6 at that same time as my gpu miner on my 5770. I have not seen it causing any slow downs in my gpu miner and my cpu does about 17Mhashs/s so it is worth while for me.

First, why aren't you all backing up your wallet data, when it changes, along with other pertinent data, on shutdown and startup, to a flash drive?  They're cheap and can hold gobs of data

Why do you assume that we do not back up our wallet?
