Step 3: Reply to this thread with your Public key and save the private key somewhere safe you will need to use it later on once we’ve generated your prefix.
Step 4: Once you receive our private key part back move onto step 2 “Calculate your vanity wallet” In the first field paste the private key you saved into it. Then in the second field paste in our part of the private key. Make sure you click “Add” then “Calculate Vanity Wallet”
Step 5: Copy and paste the Vanity Private Key (WIF) into your preferred wallet.

The amount of time it takes to generate a Bitcoin address with your prefix grows exponentially every character you add. That's why 7 characters takes about 2 hours on my rig and 8 characters takes about 4 days.

How do I import the private key onto my client?

I didn't give you a private key, I gave you a partprivkey that was generated from your public key.

So, you combined the private key you saved and the private key I gave you? Make sure you choose add not multiply.

No, you're supposed to put your part of the Private key into the top, and the part I gave you in the bottom field. Hmm.

Why don't you generate a new Key Pair, save the Private Key, post the public key and I'll regenerate the vanity for you.

Did you follow the instructions on the first page of the thread correctly?

For 3-4 letter vanity addresses, just use: https://bitcoinvanity.appspot.com/ (https://bitcoinvanity.appspot.com/). It will save everyone a lot of time...

First- Unlock the client: walletpassphrase [youpassword] 600
Second- Import the private key: importprivkey [yourprivatekey] [Titleyouwanttogiveyournewaddress]
Then you have to wait a bit. and after about 2 minutes depending on the speed of your computer you should go to
addresses and your new address should be there with the title you inserted when you first imported the private key.

You're not supposed to place the the public address though. in the second box you're supposed to place the private key
that the OP sends you upon completion of your custom public key. In the top box you place the private key that you were asked to save during step 1.

Nevermind I see that it states that it can accept the public key. That's weird because I didn't generate the private key for my public key address using the public key itself in the second box.

All these services seem to produce uncompressed keys (begins with 5). I prefer compressed keys now.

There is a difference in space. Compressed keys are shorter in the blockchain. Therefore on average, you pay less in transaction fees, and you send smaller transactions in terms of bytes.

All bitcoin addresses generated by a brand new wallet (using bitcoin-qt), since version 0.6+ are compressed keys.

I was wondering, regarding the security of this BitcoinVanity, would I be fine if I generated a split key from BitAddress and added the public key to the BitcoinVanity and kept my private key and then combined the private key from BitcoinVanity with my own to get my actual private key. Would there be any way someone knows my private key for the vanity address or am I in the clear? I’m not too cluey on the notion of vanity addresses and split keys so I would appreciate if someone could fill me in.

If you get a really good one you could perhaps sell it, but the chances are unbelievably slim.

Well it depends. Some letters appear more frequent then others. I have noticed that it takes less time to generate an address starting with a capital (1A) letter than a lowercase letter (1a)

Different prefixes can be more/less popular, it may take a long time to generate.

hey since this deal with vanity gen, anyone know why im getting an error when i try to use my 7850 to generate one? it says:
Error loading kernel file 'calc_addrs.cl': No such file or directory

I recommend redownloading the precompiled source or compile it yourself again.
It doesn't make sense why it would be giving that error with the info you've given me.

Google oclvanitygen and download that if you want to make your own vanity on Windows Bitphotos. It's not too hard to open cmd from there and open the oclvanitygen directory and then and follow the prompts. That's how I did it for mine. I'm assuming you know how to use cmd?

I'm not sure what you've got because I've beer had to deal with a file called calc address. Personally I used the one from here: http://lifeboat.com/oclvanitygen. I haven't had an issue with it so far.
