Title: Bought BTC at 20k
Post by: ljtronics1 on May 02, 2018, 06:02:13 AM
If you had 100k, you spent 50k buying BTC at 20k in Dec 2017 and felt like shit. Now is May 2018 and you have 50k left, which coin would you put your money in so that you don't feel the same way ?

I would spilt the other $50k investment and buy BTC. This bring my average buying price down.

I would buy a lot of different coins. Back in February-March. For example, PRL, POWR, CAPP, BTM, ADA, IOTA, XEM. Right now, many alts have rised. I would wait for a small correction. 50K good amount for big start.

DON'T PANIC SELL!

I have been reading analysis by many trading experts and almost all seem bullish on Bitcoin. This correction of price in year start is because the Bitcoin was overbought during November-December and hence, the correction was inevitable. But now the momentum seems to be building. Bitcoin has insane support at $8200-$8400 levels. Bitcoin is at consolidation stage and the downtrend that begins in January is reversing. Bitcoin has already bottomed out and this is the time to buy more instead of selling your BTC holdings. The projected range of BTC price this year is $25k. Better to HODL.

LOL...I don't see any panic selling in his post...it is re-investing. ;)

HODL for 25k BTC?  what is that x2.6?  In the same span, good alts will likely go x5 or more. ;)

As an example, within the past month...
BTC went up 30%
VEN is up 40%
ICX is up 60%
WAN is up 109%
ONT is up 217%

Sadly true.  However, if BTC goes up..these will go up faster.  Of course BTC downturn may impact them more negatively too.  It is a toss coin.  Risk/reward ;) .

Nice idea because you will able to minimize the percentage loss if you did able to buyback bitcoin in a lower price which will really make the gap lesser into your 20k price purchase.
This would only be good if you do only focus on bitcoin itself.

If you are a risk taker then probability of recovery on such floating negative would be patch up by means of diversifying then this would be a good choice where buying out cheap coins into those times where market is on deep reds.February to March is indeed the best time to buy cheap coins and if you did then you are already on gains now.

Iost that was below 0.0003btc last 3 has make a very high significant gain and it is still going up. Therefore if I have huge fund I am going to invest in Iost for now. It will take bitcoin more time to give such return compared to coins like wave and neo. I have a friend that invested around $17,000 and he has recover his loses through investing in other coins.

No worries still you need to hodl for long time mate. I advice you hold your bitcoins until 2020. You will find the bitcoin price goes to 40k USD atleast in the year of 2020. If you want to exchange the bitcoins for emergency or needful usage at least try to wait till this October.
I am damn you will find the peak value again in the market for sure mate.

Ouch.   In the long run, you'll be fine if you leave the remaining $50k in BTC.  If you want to take more risk and accelerate the process though you can look to alts.  There are lots of good ones out there, some of which have been named in this thread.  My personal favorite is Neblio and what I usually mention when people ask me for a general recommendation.

Before you make any decision, let me assure you that you are not alone sailing in this boat. Many people invested in Bitcoin when it was skyrocketing and become as a spot to invest and become millionaire for many people. Investing at that time was definitely a bad move and shows negligence of prior knowledge. But past can't be changed, hence you should be careful for future. I think you should try buy back when Bitcoin price falls, so that average price falls. Also, there are many big caps which can give you decent 30-40% return like IOST, EOS, EDO and so on which can help you get your investment back.

I would say it was a bad investment in the first place to enter the bull market and that too when the price was reaching $20k and everybody knew there was a big correction coming, you can look for good ICO and invest in it and may be it is a good time if you enter bitcoin and average the price so that you do not need to wait for the next time the price reaches $20k to be in profit.

Bitcoin is not stable at the moment , he is going up and down the same . First of all   , why the hell did you invested in bitcoin when he was at 20k ?  We all knew that there will come a dramatically drop becouse he has raised up to fast . And now , you wanna invest in bitcoin again ? I suggest you to not do that ,bitcoin may drop to 5000$ again . You should invest in some simple coin , you will make more profit there.

Common mistake which most people do easily commit because we do FOMO when we do see that the price shoots up without even having an awareness that we are already buying a coin into its ATH and just being hyped up and doesn't even think on what would happen next.Usually when reaching new ATH we do see sudden dump or profit taking where if you didn't able to get out as early as possible then you would end up on negative.

if it was me,
i will invest all of it into 2 or 3 projects.
as we can see everything is oversold and right now everything is trying to recover some of their prices.
which means the majority is a good place for us to invest.
so i will choose NEBL,WAVES,ICX and others.
they might regained some of their prices, but it was far from its average price before so i assume it would go higher from this point.

I'll keep on buying bitcoin if I have $50,000 left.
That's a good amount pile up more bitcoins and you did even bought during the peak.
So why not buy during the dips?

20k dollar is top of the btc prices but I think we will see high prices more then 20k dollar, maybe 1 year later it can be 50-60k dollar, so if you have cash, you can buy from 9-10k again at these days.

If you really believe such a forecast, to date it is the period when you can invest in Bitcoin at cheaper prices. But one can be much more confident and believe in good prospects for Bitcoin, otherwise all investors will doubt the accuracy of the decisions made.

If this is your case, I think you have lost too much time passively watching the market's actions without taking advantage of the great opportunities to buy more bitcoins or other cryptocurrencies that have appeared throughout this time.

Keep in mind that the bitcoin market still has a large space to grow, so even in the case that the most conservative scenario I've seen recently is fulfilled, and the bitcoin price reaches $100K in 2020, even having bought the bitcoin at $20K you can enjoy significant profits, so I would encourage you to buy more bitcoins now that it is at a price still very accessible.

I know that pain you are getting through, just forget first that cold storage and let it be at peace until it fully goes back to $20,000. And for the remaining $50,000 why not take this moment to do the same thing, you won't feel the same way because you bought at discounted price.

I will not say that you made mistake by buying BTC at $20k. BTC is a long-term investment asset, so the price will rise again, just don't know when. Hodl as long as you can and do not sale at a loss.

And with your $50k, split it into many small parts such as $2k and invest in many coins.

- - Find some good coins which are at the support level currently, buy and hodl until you get profit. Just make sure you are not buying any shit coin/token.
- - You can also invest in some ICOs by searching and researching the best ones from 1000s - it may also give you a good return if you invest in a good ICO.

I believe that the value of 20K may come back by the end of 2018, so despair can to be an enemy on the battlefield and consequently uses the rest to  invest in sustainable projects with real purposes for humanity it's what we should do and that this post serves as a lesson for everyone, where to buy by impulse of the moment  maybe it may be irreversible in the future. Thereby studying analysis and concepts before investing is the way.

I guess i will try to participate in another some promising ico in this year. Man an ico just like ontology doesn't give a shit to the early investors and it has been giving back the investors almost 40x from the ico price. And put the rest on the major altcoins. But you can try to put them all on the major altcoins too.

You could keep the btc and go to sleep for a couple of years. Most likely you've made a lot of profit in the end. If you're more of a daytrader you could go for some altcoins which you personally believe in and have done some research about. Don't just buy a coin because someone tells you to. Rather do so because you believe in it yourself.

There's a lot of coins that has a lot of potential that is undervalued. The market is starting to recover, so I think that it is really time to buy more and wait for the market to recover. You will surely get your losses back of you will be patient.

Buy more bitcoin because once it recovers or starts another bull market, it can surpass it's current ATH. Just invest and forget about your investment, so you will not be stressed. Bitcoin is for a long term HODL and it's only been a few months since bitcoin dropped from it's ATH. Patience always has a great reward.

Dont be disappointed if btc didnt meet your expectation in the price, keep in mind that btc is good as long term investment just hodl your coins for few months or years, be patient and dont panic sell since you invested 50k which is huge amount actually. If I were to invest 50k I will split it to eth and two other coins that has potential to give me x5 profit like IOST that has good progress for the past 2 weeks.

You probably don't have enough knowledge about cryptocurrency when you bought bitcoin at $20k. But don't worry, I think bitcoin will still grow more than $20k and you can have your profit. But if ever you have $100k again, divide your portfolio in coins like XRP, Waves, and Stratis.

You can buy 1 BTC again this month while the price is not yet back to peak one, the other 40k buy it with ETH. Hold the half of your ETH and the other buy it with tokens you think its promising, then they might grow together this coming December and your income will comeback x50 or even more.

This is a very common misconception about crypto investing.  IF you are selling to cash out then I agree that it is crazy.

In crypto, even if you bought BTC at $20k each... it can be wise to sell at $10k each.  That looks like a 50% loss so HOW?

SIMPLE.  WHEN the coin you are buying is on SALE for more than 50% and is expected to rebound as strong (if not stronger) than BTC.

The catch is finding the coin that will out perform BTC.  Many would rather play it safe and just HODL BTC and that is a perfectly good way to go too.  I just want to present the alternative and how it can work.

Pathetic moves for him to wait for a dump since look like the market capitalization is regaining back and there are huge whales are keep coming to make bitcoins go pump. We actually see the little bull run symptoms and might the pump will continue since the people right now are keep looking for the pump and not with the dump and this could be a good opportunity for him to buy and regain on what he loss when he bought at $20k at piece.

 because I only like btc
and I don't want to benefit from btc. Im chinese, understand the people around me and tell you responsibly
that the Chinese people have a strong purchasing power,
but 99.9% of people don't even know what is the BTC,
what is the public key and the private key,
and they Do not understand investment,
 they are greedy!!!!!!!.
From a speculative point of view, btc will surely rise.
Eventually the Chinese will lose their money.

If you had 100k, you spent 50k buying BTC at 20k in Dec 2017 and felt like shit. Now is May 2018 and you have 50k left, which coin would you put your money in so that you don't feel the same way ?

this is silly.

if you bought btc on 20k please hodl until it reached 20k.
dont panic and sell it

You have to split the remaining 50k in dollars in different altcoins. Ethereum is a good choice for the longterm hold. But you have to consider that skme ico has a potential to x10 when they hit in exchange. So I will invest 20k dollars in a good ICO like SPINDLE and Safein.

At the moment, I think BTC and ETH are the best choices :). You can see that BTC and ETH price is increasing back very fast, it make almost other altcoins price dump to hell so quickly. If anyone want to invest right now I think they should only choose BTC and ETH only, but if they're interested in altcoin, they need to wait at least 1 more week to buy altcoin with the lowest price.

It might be late to catch the train, you should buy when it was at $6k dip. Anyway, buying coins this moment will still profitable. I will still go at BTC and ETH, those are good coins for long term investments.

I would spilt the other $50k investment and buy BTC. This bring my average buying price down.
I think buying when the price is in the condition of ATH is a risky thing because of the possibility of falling price is quite large and it happens after beginning of the year, bitcoin prices decline and if you're good at looking at opportunities then you should buy at bottom line of bitcoin price, you should buy when the price $6k a few days ago, but buying again now is not too late

If Bitcoin continues with this upsurge, it may break the record of a few more patience, exceeding $ 15,000 in a few months, not too soon. I carry this hope inside of me I hope bitcoin does not fool us

bitcoin can certainly have a price above 20k, it will be one good news and has the potential for future rising bitcoin. so buying bitcoin does not matter and can be a chance to make big profits.

I would have diversified my investment in different coins like ETH,LTC,Waves,NEO,TRX when prices were down and my $50k investment would have turn to double covering my loss by few years time if i hodl for long term. But i think that btc prices are gaining speed as prices today surpass $10k and by the last of this year the prices would cross $20000 landmark once again. So don't panic and hodl your coins with you and you will get your expected profits soon.

if I have a plan for the long term then I think I will keep the remaining $ 50k and wait until the bitcoin price goes back to $ 20k or even more to make a profit. but if the price of Bitcoin again throws away from now, then I will again buy bitcoin with the rest of my money.

I would most probably buy BTC still so my losses would be lessen because of bitcoins price that's half of the amount when I bought it in and if it does go down more I'd buy them again. They call it diversification, if I'm not mistaken. Then I'll just hold my coin until it reaches back to that amount and wait until it goes more than $20k.

I would choose small coins for short-term trading such as QLink(The first decentralized mobile network),OriginTrail,IOST,Which I have just discovered,Also Zerocoin(for long-term trading),EOS-I'm trying to buy it for June,so I believe in development team behind it and their visions),Or even let's choose stellar. So,I trust in bitcoin but today, its more profitable for me to buy and sell small, unique and cheap coins..But of course in every situation it will be profitable in the future, anyway everything depends on your patience.

Already price is near 10k and most like it will cross and next target it will reach or try to reach 15k as soon as possible . So people who had bought above 10k  you will see the price rise soon and people will finally be little relieved as those had waited for long the wait will be over soon now.

Bitcoin will rise again. Don’t worry mate. Just hold your Btc and sell when it reaches $30-40k or more desirable profit :)

I would buy NEO, ADA and also buy ETH and BTC in order to make average price lower. These 2 are potential coins, so the main purpose is not to sell, as long as you didn't lose untill you sell and fix your loss. This is my suggestion and I consider it reasonable.

You must diversify the risks-do not put all the money in one coin. Buy waves, eos, neo, stratis, ethereum.
and do not worry, bitcoin will grow! ;)

I would diversify by buying a bunch of different altcoins. However, I wouldn’t just randomly pick coins. I would do some research on good coins in the top 100 in coin market cap and pick only good projects. I would also invest in the big altcoins like Etherium, Ripple, and Bitcoin Cash. My guess is that for a few years, there will be several coins that do very well and probably some coins that are currently not high on the coin market cap list that will rise to the top ten.

I do not think there's any need to panic if the price is taken from the price. He will go further each time. But you may just have to wait and wait for a while. For this reason, instead of selling panic, you just have to stay away from the screen and wait.

I took a car for a while. My first car. And frankly, I was a child. I was really fooled. But this was not the opposite of the crime. I got the car worth 20% more than its normal value. I pay attention to every trade this day. Continuous investigation. Until you find the best. And I learned that. There is always a better option.

You can try different kinds of coins like there, ltc, ont, xvg, xem, xlm, trx, eos their average value up to 40% just over 1 month more, the highest I think EOS is over 200%, or you can try buy bitcoin again you will get double profit when the price goes up because you buy at the base price.

Were waiting for the price to increase again but it seems it is slowly increasing to become all time high. That's our desired price to $30k but it take time to reach. When btc bought $20k we have to calm and patient rather than panic selling.

many of us can do mistakes and sometimes repeatedly, as for your case,  you can try a different approach but again it is on the crypto ways,  invest now on other top coins, it may cover some of your losses when crypto price increases and I don't call it lose anymore when your money becomes doubled if you sold them on a right time after holding.

Don't be sad if you bought bitcoin at a higher price because in the future, it will be worth it. The price will recover this year, just be patient enjoy the market and don't ever panic because panicking will gain you nothing but a loss.

I will divide it into some different altcoin like bitcoincash, etherium, waves, ada, neo so i will not feel the same.
When the price one of our altcoin drop, we still have another altcoin which will grow so we have more choices.

i think your in wrong time to put investment in bitcoin buying i high price are not advisable, but do not worry is part of learning mistake for the newbies so far hold your bitcoin relax be patience wait to bounce back again.

as of now i will suggest to learn how to trade using bitcoin to increase the number of your investment and surely if the price return into 20k usd your profits earning is too expensive.

The price of the bitcoin from december to may decreased at 50 percent and for sure once you invested to bitcoi n last december 2017 and you held until now you lose 50 percent of your capital. But this is the good news now it's because if you see the price of the bitcoin last month of march the price is $7000 but now is already reached 10k dollars and for sure it will continue to increase now.

99 percent of Chinese do not know about btc.
At the same time, Chinese people like to speculate.

When they understand what a virtual currency is,
it will set off a frenzy.

Believe me I understand the environment around me. They are not awake yet.

If I was in this situation, I would have bought BTC when it went down to the range of 7 - 8k USD. This will help in averaging the purchase price of BTC. With rest of money, I will buy ETH.
I follow two rules while making an investment, never invest all in one single coin and always buy in chunks.

I would split 50k to altcoin and this is my composition if i have 50k to invest to :
1. Ethereum : $10k ( holding untill hybrid consesnsus launch and stake it.
2. Neo : $10k ( because we can get gas by holding neo )
3. Waves : $10k ( you can leased your waves and getting intesrest )
4. Exscudo : $10k ( when platform launch buy exscudo at least 25k eon for making masternodes )
5. Ico : put on legit ico like xyo network / daostack / essentia

Suggest you to split your remaining 5% into Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash in equal preposition. Both these crypto have good potential and market cap, to be specific Ethereum have regained its current price increasing its value price $50 in day rise. Think Ethereum would settle around $2000 within a coiple of months to drive further for year end target.
