Iran follows Russia in banning popular messaging app Telegram

Unfortunately Russia govt banned Telegram in Russia and Iran govt will ban telegram for their people in next days.

Why use proxy for telegram app, if Russian and Iranian people can simply use any vpn that they trust and is available for free to access telegram? In my opinion them using a vpn that they trust is more user friendly and more convenient. It is also safer since they are assured that the information they have sent using the vpn would not get leaked to any third parties.

The above mentioned statement has some truth in it, most of the free proxies or vpn's are a shady deal indeed. I cannot see a way of how these free proxies etc. are supposed to have enough funds to safely rent or set up secure servers on themselves, not even speaking of transparency and proved legitimacy of the owners of these proxies, which are virtually non-existent. I'd personally go with some kind of tested consumer grade VPN/Proxy server service or with not using a proxy at all and accepting the limitations, as the risks are not worth the rewards really.

However, the intentions of the OP (if these are honest) are nice :].

Have the Russians tried using it with Tor obfs4 bridges? You can activate a "socks5 proxy" in the Telegram configuration and point it to a Tor running in localhost. For smartphones its the very same thing using orbot (which is tor for Android). While you are at it you can also use that Tor to bypass internet censorship using many browsers, including tor's.

If I were the Russian and the Iranian people, I'd rather use VPN than using your proxy server. What if you're spying on me lol. And with addition to that, in some telegram, Ph is banned from their group, with the use of VPN I can access to that. :P. Better to use VPN than that.
