For some citizens it is really hard to purchase bitcoins or litecoins

For example i live in Turkey and it is almost impossible to instant purchase even if you have the money

Wire transfers take long and high fees

:(

The price of LTC revolves around BTC, not circulation like BTC. It won't drop anytime soon unless BTC crashes hard. LTC/USD has increased but not LTC/BTC because its not based around circulation like BTC. LTC and BTC are worth something because of two totally different reasons. So if you're a player in the litecoin game, you have to watch the BTC game.

There is some truth to this, but at this nascent point in the cryptocurrency biz, much of it is based on speculation. a lot of the litecoin craze of late is because of the Senate hearing on BTC and the Wall Street Journal article that mentions LTC.

But you are probably right in that if BTC crashes, LTC will probably go with it to a certain degree.

Actually LTC/BTC ratio doubled. Check the charts again  ::)

Actually it is back where the LTC/BTC price was half year ago.  So much for good investment ;)

I will be watching the LTC/BTC on BTC-e. If it keeps rising, then I will trade some BTC for LTC on there.

BTC won't be stabilize around $1000, this is just a high point for now. LTC seems to always stabilize its price of LTC/BTC so I believe investing in it could go either way depending on where it lands.

ltc is the only alt coin with any value. I would grab some if it manages to dip in the next week

I do think LTC will ultimately crash, LTC really does trade on the back of BTCs strength and at this moment in history there really isn't space for another crypto to get near being mainstream. Purely a speculative gamble but with the rapid growth it's definitely looking good short term. I think you'll see <25 before >31.

NovaCoin seems to be worth something as well. For a long time it was worth more than LTC but its losing its drive it seems. I honestly would go for NVC over LTC but that's just a gut feeling.

Litecoin has gone up proportionally even faster than BTC over the last couple of days from .015 BTC each to over .02.  Given the maximum litecoin can be is .25 BTC you may still have some room to buy.  Any forum idiot can point out the price history of a coin, the key challenge is what will happen going forward, and that obviously no one knows.  However, it seems that LTC will get more attention as BTC gets more and more out of reach, for example peerbet just added litecoin.

Good point. LTC is still very affordable. We don't know what will ultimately happen with crypto-currencies. I will be investing in LTC as a side bet that has a TON of potential upside.

Same thing in France. I feel really excluded from these good markets... The exchange sites are happy to collect very personal information about you, and that's all.

I agree, NovaCoin (NVC) has higher potential than Litecoin, also inovative proof of stake concept not just Bitcoin clone as Litecoin is

My guess is LTC will stabilize somewhere for a very long time and investing in it will be useless to make a quick buck. NVC's price will keep changing and be easy to make a quick buck if you're lucky/quick/smart enough to do it.

I don't know all that much about NovaCoin, so I may be wrong here, but I think the draw of Litecoin is that it's similar enough to Bitcoin, except that it uses scrypt it will be more difficult to build FPGAs or ASICs that can mine them more efficiently than GPUs.  This means people who can't afford a nice fancy ASIC can still mine them with their GPUs.  Granted, it's entirely possible that some other coin will become more popular, but for now it's LTC.

I should look into NovaCoin, that sounds cool.

Edit: I did some looking and another thing the Litecoin has going for it over NovaCoin is that, just by google-ing the name, Litecoin has a website where you can get a wallet, whereas NovaCoin is a little harder to find.

Never heard of Novacoin. Must look into it.

I thought I was ahead of the game with Litecoin when I bought 10 coins a few months back. I put them in an online wallet (LTC-WALLET.COM) and a few months later without warning the site went down and never came back up. Turned out to be a scam. A realk shame but you live and learn!

Guess its time to get a machine up and running for Litecoin mining.  Glad I have a spare PC available, is it recommended to have a higher CPU or more RAM for this kind of mining?

It's all about GPU mining. A CPU won't give you a high enough hash rate to make it worth it. I've got a Quad Core Xeon only giving me 20KH/s which is like 0.01 LTC / day. My old NVidia 9600 GT can mine that fast and NVidia cards are pretty bad at mining. AMD cards are much better for this kind of task.

Ah, the blog I was reading talked about CPU mining for Litecoin, this makes more sense compared to some of the other stuff I was reading.  Good to know, thanks.

GPU. CPU is useless for all coins unless just starting out.

It would seem, at least for a little while, that buying a nice AMD GPU to mine with would pay for itself pretty quickly.

Ordered a R9 290x today with that concept in mind.

Other than throwing 3 cards in one machine, what's the most efficient way to GPU mine today?

litecoin seems way overdue for a crash. i wnated to buy in at $12, but at $36.. it's way overvalued. there is no infrastructure to support it. it probably won't crash below $10 though.
