Title: [IXC] iXcoin Core Development Fundraising
Post by: FrictionlessCoin on November 28, 2013, 03:46:59 AM
Purpose: To generate funds to help pay for core development work.

As you are probably familiar, the iXcoin client has not been updated in over two years. We are currently working on a new version of the software that will bring it current with the Bitcoin code base.

We have a number of developers who are highly skilled and motivated to work on this project. Work has commenced to carefully review and convert patches to create a clean rebase upon v0.8.x.  Once this is complete, we’ll need to do extensive testing and some additional documentation.  After the client is modernized and the network is upgraded, we have exciting plans to further improve the iXcoin protocol.

These operations take time and unfortunately a number of our developers must necessarily split time between paying projects (i.e. their day jobs) and this important work to better ensure the long-term safety and security of the iXcoin network.

It is for this reason that we are requesting donations to help fund this development work.  Funds will first be used to reimburse core infrastructure hosting expenses before being divided amongst the developers.

IXC: xm7RZfDQyiYqFQZ6Q9ZgtSkX9e8uBJ3SLY

We currently have pledges of 25,000 IXC from 2 users: tazman and Vlad2Vlad.

We are trying to reach original developer (Thomas Nakasioto ) for additional bounties but have been unsuccessful.

Thank you,

The iXcoin Development Team
FrictionlessCoin
(looking for additional contributors)

Project Update:  The code has been successfully migrated to 0.8.5.1 and we are currently performing testing and code clean up.

Seeking donations for translations on the ixcoin.co website.

Send to:   xm7RZfDQyiYqFQZ6Q9ZgtSkX9e8uBJ3SLY

I have taken the liberty of using Google translate to perform the current translations.

However, a human will perform a much better job.

Several folks have asked about this, so I want to give them some compensation to do the work.

Hello, I am interested in doing a translation to german, since german is my mother language, and I speak english fluently.
I just went to ixcoin.co and the german translation there is horrible.

For example at http://www.ixcoin.co/?page_id=27 you write:

Wie Sie wahrscheinlich kennen , die iXcoin Client nicht in mehr als zwei Jahren aktualisiert worden. Wir arbeiten derzeit an einer neuen Version der Software, die es mit der Bitcoin- Code-Basis zu bringen Strom .

It should better be:

Wie Sie wahrscheinlich wissen, ist der iXcoin Client seit mehr als zwei Jahren nicht mehr aktualisiert worden. Wir arbeiten derzeit an einer neuen Version der Software, um wieder auf den gleichen Stand wie die aktuelle Bitcoin-Code-Basis zu kommen.

I would be happy to help for a few Ixcoins in return.

If only German was my top priority, which it isn't.  Most Germans already understand English.

Looking for Spanish, Chinese, Arabic and French.   Other possibilities would be Portuguese, Japanese, Persian.

Update: With the recent Bitcoin release of 0.8.6, we have decided that the first official iXcoin upgrade in 2 years will also be 0.8.6.

This will allow us to quickly update with the much anticipated 0.8.7 version.

For more information regarding the new versions, read http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-fixes-bugs-updates-block-size-limits/

Again, please donate so that we can speed up development.

3,500 IXC is incoming now.  I'm sending it to keep the momentum going on your development.  The rest of my 10,000 IXC bounty will be sent when the client is fully tested and a compiled version is released.   Keep up the amazing work.  Ixcoin has needed a promoter/developer like you from the beginning.  Thanks!

The source code now has been updated to 0.8.6.  This is the latest version of Bitcoin and will allow iXcoin to easily to convert to 0.8.7 when it arrives!

Here is the iXcoin Mac OS X 0.8.6 client in action:

For developers with the skills to do this, their best bets really for compensation are probably GRouPcoin (GRP), CoiLedCoin (CLC) and GeistGeld (XGG).

That is because those three merged mined coins are not on exchanges yet, and only one of them (GRP) is even on any major public merged mining pools yet.

Which means there are probably people getting GRP free so you might be able to pick up a lot of it cheap; and for CLC and XGG their difficulty is extremely low so you can mine lots of them with very little hashpower.

So really the way to get rich with those skills would probably have been to merged mine all the merged mined coins (BTC, NMC, DVC, GRP, I0C, IXC, CLC, XGG), even if only with a block eruptor or a few block eruptors or even a GPU or a few GPUs, so as to accumulate lots and lots of the low difficulty ones, leaving those low difficulty ones until last for the software upgrades, so that by the time you upgrade their software you already have huge numbers of their coins.

IXC does not really need an upgrade as much as some of the others do, in fact, though; so actually if you had actually done the merged mining you would have realised that XGG was more in need of the upgrade than any of the other merged coins. Notice that someone has in fact done a partial update of XGG, not the full fix but just the dirty hack fix, to enable them to be able to merge it without eating 8+ gigabytes of RAM to do so.

Actually merging all the coins would have shown them which ones they needed most urgently to update to fit all the coins into their available RAM, unless they chose to just throw RAM at the problem instead of fixing the problem.

Basically working on these coins is a self-funding endeavour, or should be; the under the radar coins are where you get to build up a huge hoard of coins ready to profit massively once you do release updated versions.

IXCoin could have waited, you could have first fixed XGG and CLC however much they needed to enable you to be able to add them to your own merge. Then regardless of whether anyone donated anything toward updating the coins that already have massive hash-rate and are already on exchanges you would have been building up your under the radar fortune in the under the radar coins.

Which of course you might actually be doing; you certainly ought to be doing it, even if it does turn out that you are able to get some donations too.

For long term people all these merged mined coins basically each lose a lot of their appeal as long term investments once all kinds of public pools and exchanges adopt them, because then it becomes too late to spend months or years quietly establishing large holdings of them.

Part of why there had been no urgency to update IXCoin was that it was not enough of a RAM hog compared to e.g. I0Coin and (even more so than I0Coin) GeistGeld to be a problem, and it was already so darn hard to accumulate by mining that attracting even more miners would just make it even harder to build one's position by mining.

Make sure you developers all have CoiLedCoin and GeistGeld in your merges, so that when time comes to update them you need not go begging since by then you will be major holders of those coins having mined them at low difficulty all this time...

MarkM,

I don't see why IXC "could have waited"?   The code wasn't updated in 2 1/2 years!

The client was ancient and not internationalized.   The Mac OS X and Ubuntu client were not working!

Fortunately, we've done the work to upgrade IXC.   The core code is out there.

Just need to have some spare cycles to create the QT clients for Windows and Ubuntu.

So we are making good progress, despite the complete apathy of the supposed folks who claimed to put out bounties.

The other difference is that the coins that you mentioned, allthough old, have never been traded in exchanges.

IXC has been trading since 2012,  people have spent BTC to acquire IXC.  That's when BTC was under $10.

So IXC in fact is much more valuable than it is now.

Matter of fact, folks spent more per BTC in 2012 than they are spending now.

My suspicion is that a lot of people who once held IXC, may have actually lost those coins!

Please donate to the development effort.

We need to sustain the momentum.

IXC today is the top percentage performer among all alt-coins.

Now ranked #18 in http://coinmarketcap.com/

6,600 IXC is on its way to your dev address.  I've decided to send the rest of my bounty plus a little extra.  Although I don't yet have a working updated Ixcoin client, you've done so much with the website, forum and promotion that it is worth it.  Plus we need to keep things moving forward.  I've now paid my whole bounty of 10,000 IXC, plus 100 IXC extra.  I hope to get the new client soon.  Thanks for your effort!

Thanks.

Note:  There is a working Mac OS X binary that is available for download.

With your contribution, I plan on buying a press release ( $75 ) so that iXcoin gets hit on the financial wires.  You can help by crafting the wording for one.

Next stuff coming up is a SPV based client (no need to download entire block chain)  + chromawallet.

So the new 'angle' will be similar to mastercoin and we'll be targeting also international markets at the same time.

Please also donate to the fundraising.

We got a press release coming out in January.   Expect a lot of upside.

The entire marketing strategy is to promote the technlogy to the real serious investor.   None of this 'Doge', 'Feather', 'Mega', 'Quark' garbage.

GeistGeld is the super-fast-transactions small-change "sleeper" coin of the merged mined family, how about putting GeistGeld donation addresses in your .signatures so folks can send you some? Then hang on to them and also add them to your merge when mining. (But don't forget to also merge CoiLedCoin too of course, that is also somewhat of a "sleeper" at the moment so like GeistGeld is great for picking up at low difficulty right now before some public pool picks them up.)

MarkM,

I have no real way to acquire these 2 coins that you mentioned.  Are there even websites on these?  Are there any block explorers?

IXCoin has been traded on an exchange since 2012.  The price has been established for years now.  These coins you mention don't trade anywhere.   Sure, you have a plan to make you a lot of money by hoarding these old and dead coins, but without any proper dev. support... they will essentially remain dead.

I mean, I could create one of these coins tomorrow and it'll be more alive than any of these coins you hold today.

See http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/latestrates.inc

They don't show on the tables and plots yet at http://galaxies.mygamesonline.org/digitalisassets.html because I had not accumulated data on them long enough nor really had much need/motivation yet to dig into the scripts to add them.

There is quite a few months of data collected on them by now though already.

Eventually I will break the tables and plots into up to the timestamp just before I started collecting info on these ones that weren't in there and the timestamps after I added them, since the plots are getting a bit scrunched up horizontally anyway so do need splitting up into old plots and recent plots at some point anyway.

Bounties / donations would be a way to acquire some of these coins you imagine yourself unable to acquire. :)
