Title: Which exchange will make history and be the first to switch to mBTC?
Post by: Fajman on November 28, 2013, 04:42:01 AM
1. I’m wondering which exchange will make history and be the first to switch to mBTC?

2. What exactly does making the switch mean?
    a.   Is it just changing the price on their main page
    b.   Adding extra procedure to their API’s  (Note – I haven’t used these so I’m guessing at how they work)
    c.   Changing their current API’s… although that sounds risky.

How hard could it be? and why not since it will remove a psychological barrier (especially for the BTC newbs)

I hope they won't do that until the next major milestone, ounce of gold.

If I had to guess I'd say Gox.  I know it's not likely to be them but I think they'd be the first to incorporate mbtc into their system.

There is no point! You can trade less than a full BTC right now, so who cares? I think it's a stupid idea to change the way we look at Bitcoin for the sake of small holders.

i disagree.
mbtc is vital for the future of bitcoin. for the average guy bitcoin is a very abstract concept to begin with. but we need the average guy if we want mass adoption. it is already hard for a beginner to put "real" money into this abstract currency. but is is completely impossible to get anyone to invest into just a fraction of something this abstract.

i know it is not rational. it´s a psychological barrier. if our average dude comes home to tell his wife he jumped the fence and finally bought ... oh well 0.0034456 of what ever he will feel reluctant. if he could tell he bought a couple of hundred it will be a much easier thing to tell.

in my opinion milli-bitcoin is a question of survival. the community needs to adopt this, so mass adoption can take place.

They'll wait a bit I guess. It's only marginally above $1/mBTC now and it might tank at some point. If the price goes up to $10k or stays here fore a few months the change will be made I guess :)

Why does everyone want to switch to mBTC? I just don't get it... how hard is it to say .000001 BTC or .00004 BTC?  :-\

Because it's easier :)

Most people want to change because they think retarded people will think it's expensive and won't buy. I'm not sure what I think of that because changing for that sounds scammy.
