Title: Claymore crash at startup - GPU Z no OpenCL
Post by: katatunix on May 03, 2018, 02:46:20 AM
My rigs has 8 GPUs of PowerColor RX580 4G Samsung VRAM.

Claymore 11.6/11.7 just crashes at startup.

GPU Z reported that there is no OpenCL.

But in Radeon Setting, there is OpenCL.

What I did:
- Virtual Memory to 20000 MB
- Set the 5 recommended environment variables
- DDU, reinstall Blockchain Driver 23rd Aug
- Revert to stock rom (no modded)

Please help me.

Thank you very much.

I have a feeling it has been blocked by defender

check your AV and firewall settings and exclude Claymore miner

things you want to try:

Try other miners, like Claymore Cryptonote or nicehash, just to isolate if its a driver or hardware issue

I already disable Windows Defender and turn off Firewall in the first place.

Tried with ethminer with no luck, still crash at startup. It seem both Claymore and ethminer are able to start (some text were printed to console) but when the miners access OpenCL, crash!

how about your windows? which version do you use?
as far as I know it should be windows 10 fully upgraded in order to work smooth.
for me the set win 10 + aug 23 blockchain drivers are working very good and stable

In device Manager shows all 8 cards without exclamation points, etc.? Although this is not necessary, but run AMD Pixel Clock Patcher (https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher (https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-AMD-ATI-Pixel-Clock-Patcher)) and then try to run the miner. In addition, show a line to start the miner from a *.bat file.

It's win10 Creator which works well with my other rigs, and yeah, Blockchain Driver is very good.

In Device Manager all 8 cards are okay, run Pixel Patch already.

I execute EthDcrMiner64.exe directly, no any .bat file.

Everything is okay except what I mentioned in the first post.

I've just visit this site https://mining.help/ it mentioned about Adrenaline Edition and Crimson Edition. Maybe these drivers are more suitable to my rig. Will try them tonight.

Forget about Blockchain drivers, since 18.3.4 there is no point using them.
Just use latest and make sure you set to Compute in Radeon settings

Pixel patcher is not needed for RX580s

If it still crashes, post the message that it crashes with

What GPU are you using for your Primary Display?  A couple months back I was using my CPU's iGPU for the primary display and everything worked great.  Recently, I can't get any mining software to load any AMD OpenCL devices unless I use one of them as my primary display.  It's almost like Windows is not loading the AMD drivers properly unless an AMD card is the primary display.  I had the same behavior from at least 4 different miners, so my issue had nothing to do with Claymore.
