Title: UK Bitcoiners - Let's get Just-eat to accept Bitcoin
Post by: Tirapon on November 28, 2013, 10:14:56 AM
I sent them an email suggesting that they add the payment option, here was the response:

Thank you for emailing info@just-eat.co.uk

Thank you for your suggestion. We are not currently considering using this option of the payment, unless we find that there is enough demand for it.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards

Jade

So, they need more demand before they will add the option to pay in Bitcoin? Let's all email them then!

I use just-eat almost weekly. Getting them on-board would be great publicity for Bitcoin, but I reckon this would be a way away yet. Give it time, as all it'll take is a few big retailers to start accepting 'em and the knock on effect would be huge. With the current instability/recklessness of bitcoin it would be a huge risk for businesses, but it's one that could pay off 10-fold in less than a year.

I've often said I wouldn't spend my bitcoins on Subway sandwiches, but I'd like to order from my favourite takeaway place. The money I've made from BTC would be like getting free pizza!

Its not really an option for most businesses.

The issue with banks only seems to relate to directly setting up a bitcoin business. Using bitpay or another payment preprocessor to accept payments in bitcoin should not present a problem, especially for an established business. The argument of VAT does not apply to accepting bitcoin as payment only trying to sell bitcoin itself, and besides I've not been able to find anywhere that directly states bitcoins or "digital currency" or "crypto currency" should be treated as a single purpose voucher on HMRC's site to justify that anyway. The FOI refusals may simply be because they are been slow and don't actually have anything officially down on paper to release yet.

It's a well written article and I don't doubt that many of those problems exist, but there is a bit difference between operating a business and accepting bitcoins as payment and operating a business to deal in bitcoins.

Wasn't aware of this, thanks! I will be ordering via takeaway.com from now on, and asking my favourite restaurants to join.

I sent a reply to the people at just-eat:

Thanks for your response. I'm just letting you know, I have discovered that takeaway.com is already supporting Bitcoin as a payment option. I will therefore be placing my orders through them whenever possible. Hope to see you add Bitcoin support to your service soon, I have been very happy when ordering via just-eat!
