Just an update from me... I haven't played the game in over a year. I never made any money but I also got bored and lost motivation, there's some interesting discussion in this thread from an individual who used to test the game originally. I can't verify the factual truth behind these things or anything like that it's up to you decide. I'm surprised this thread is still alive. I just came back to bitcointalk recently too.

In light of recent events and a lot of us being scammed in those GoldenTown's referral threads I decided to make a new one where we all can help each other and avoid new players from being scammed as well.

This idea was originally thought by tutkarz in one of those threads. His idea was to create new accounts where each new player uses the person's above link so everyone has a downline. It doesn't seem good as BTC reward but let's be honest those claims were just too good to be true. Well, it could be better because your downline may pay 10% game taxes to for a long time, long after you're both level 30. You never know.

Also, did you know that even if you don't sign up using someone's link you will still be someone's referral? So you will still pay a 10% referrer tax no matter what.

Well that's the thing. Let's try to optimize our towns. So here I am level 1. And I started building up the quality roads around the production buildings first, so I can upgrade them. Later on we'll need to upgrade the market and town halls right? So what is the best building to place here (red arrow)?

I just put a police station and fire station in that red arrow spot and the spot right beside it, on the other side of the road.
I did this so the town hall can easily be level 3, IDK if it's the best idea.  I'll post my town once I get all houses to level 5 or 6, and all production buildings maxed :)

What's the story with golden town can you make money playing?

I'm a beginner to this game, so I can't act like I know everything about it but from what I've gathered:

- The economy based just like Bitcoin where there's a maximum amount of currency in the system, in this case gold mined.
- The virtual gold is backed by real 24k gold, the amount or real gold backing up the virtual gold is constantly growing every second.
- Virtual gold can be traded by the resellers (players who have 100% happiness in their towns, qualify) with PayPal, Bitcoin or the real gold.
- I have no idea what the average or casual player can make yet, but  it is a fun game regardless.

The main landing page for the site has a side bar which displays recent gold transactions for fiat.

I was reading a strategy last night that recommended building farms only and utilizing the market to trade for other needed resources.  By only utilizing farms, you do not consume resources (just time) to produce.  Not sure how viable the strategy is but seemed to be an interesting idea.

That was my theory as well, considering the base resource (vegetable) doesn't cost any resource except time and (game) energy. And starting unskilled workers never die.

Average/Casual player would usually make nothing.  Also, investing gold won't speed up the process too much unless you use it wisely.  I've earned hundreds of raw materials from war funds, now that was a great investment :)

You have to play for many months before you start earning a couple of dollars a week. Play it for fun, don't think too much about the money ;)

That's what I currently do, farms only instead of producing iron and clay.

What I could never figure out is, for town shares, who does the gold go to is it split like all the other resources?

Yes, it is.  But really, you won't get a large amount of it unless you decide to invest a lot :/
Their game shares a very unstable, they used to be selling for 0.7 gold, now it's like 0.3 gold.  The users are just putting in random inputs :P

Anyone else have this issue? My inventory values (among other values such as energy) aren't displaying on my Home screen (show up as blanks). I can see my inventory values from the Inventory page, however.

EDIT: Nvm, it is fixed for me now. Not sure what changed...

I've been thinking about playing this game just to get to level 5 (which sounds easy enough) to get the bitcoin rewards that some people are offering... but I'm kind of lost from this thread.

Who do I sign up under to get bitcoin rewards that isn't a scammer?

Once you've signed up, go to your settings and find your referral link. Then you'll be the next person that gets someone to sign up under you.

This means if the person signs up under plays for a long time (to level 100 or higher) they will pay 10% taxes to you. Everyone who signs up pays the tax regardless, but with the referral system you can build up a downline.

Edit: I'm not sure which program you signed up to get those Bitcoin rewards, this thread doesn't offer that. We're just trying to help people who are interested in playing long term but also to help each other out by the rewarding referral system.

I suggest you do.  Private islands by the higher levels, such as Chad, offer you great bonuses and has protection because there are many high levels living there.  If you don't like it, you can always drop your citizenship there and return to your "homeland" after 72 hours.  BTW, what's your name on goldentowns?

No, all your taxes stay the same except for the war taxes and state budget tax, dpeending on what country you go to.  I am currently in Chad :)  can't find you, are you lower than level 5?

Should I join Chad or Saint Helena?

Chad has the best bonuses in resources and gold.  Saint Helena offers you stronger protection, which IMHO doesn't really matter.
I suggest Chad.

I'm not much better then you guys at this game, I'm level 14 and have 60% happiness, with good production.
I quit gold mining after a few tries, hopefully can get back to it once I get all my default production buildings maxed, and start building a few more.  Anyways, if you guys have any question I can try to help :)

What's the story with golden town can you make money playing?

You can, it will take a while - I've been playing for a couple of months and didn't earn yet - however, my strategy is to build-up slowly before I start earning. So I'm not sure what kind of earnings can be achieved yet. I'll update the thread when I get some more information, which will likely take another couple of months.

I used to be one of the core testers for this game, as to their previous one, and was invited on their follow up (Pipstycoon, which I declined). Just a little note, to anyone planning on investing in this game:

The guys behind Goldentown, are the same that were behind Anno1777. Anno1777 was quite a successful site with over 50.000 daily active players, yet they managed to reduce that number to less than 1.000. There's quite a story behind that, yet since the site has been sold to a loyal player, I won't tread into details.

Most of the money generated in Goldentown, prior Anno1777 and now also Pipstycoon, ends up in the pockets of a select few. I won't disclose them, yet the pattern is easy to find. There is a certain, well, "business model" behind these sites. Which, made me leave them.

Regarding Goldentown, I can tell you that the claim they are stating that it is backed by real gold, is utterly false.
There is no gold, not a single troy ounce. Never has, at least not in terms of real gold.

My advice, should you plan to invest, is just to be cautious  ;)

I'd love to hear your insider information on this. And of course the gold isn't backing the site. It's not feasible to keep shaving off 0.0001 oz or whatever their minimum is every x period of time. Thinking otherwise is asinine.

FYI: After a long time playing this - I gave up with no BTC withdrawal - I wouldn't advise playing. There are tons of bugs and the system is unfinished in many areas - shame as it was addictive, just the bugs caused more problems than the game was addictive.

I abandoned GoldenTowns when the gold price dropped like a stone(or like a crap altcoin), making almost impossible get enough to withdraw in any reasonable amount of time. Also the bugs were annoying.

Seems things aren't different now.

Golden Towns is a big waste of time now, I would rather go to faucets

I Completely agree - it wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the enormous number of bugs, in the end my schools bugged out so I couldn't train anybody so I just gave up
