Let me quickly introduce my new widget: it allows to display a chart of your favorite bitcoins directly on your homescreen :

It's very easy to use :

STEP 1.) Select one of the major exchange:

mtgoxUSD
bitstampUSD
btceUSD
localbtcUSD

btcnCNY

bitcurexPLN

STEP 2.) Select your preferred chart type:

Candlestick
Closing line
Median Price
OHLC (Open-High-Low-Close)
Typical Price
Weighted Close

STEP 3.) Do you want to see price bands added to the charts ?

Bollinger Band ?
Donchian Channel ?
SMA 20 +/-10% (SMA = Simpel Moving Average)

STEP 4.) Select a few timeframes ....

1 day
2 days
5 days
10 days
1 month
2 months
3 months
4 months
5 months
6 months
1 year
2 years
4 years
8 years
All Data available

=> every click on the widget will 'cycle through' the choosen timeframes ...

STEP 5.) Click on OK !!


It's very easy, isn't it ?  ???

PS: If click on "More Options" : you can also add 2 moving averages (Simple, Exponential, Triangular, Weighted) using 4 periods (10, 25, 50, 200).
You have the option to display Volumes bars or not. Option to force the scaling method (normal, log, percent or timeframe dependant), option to display Parabolic SAR on charts.

PS2 : You can put this widget on your lock screen !

bitcoincharts.com (source for the charts) does not have a "Time Period" lower than "1 Day". So you mean that you would like to use 1-min or 5-min bars instead of the default "15-min" I guess ? Is that it ?

About the bug you described, I can't retrace it. Could you please explain exactly what you are doing?

So you select only "1 Day" and when you change the Chart Type from "OHLC" to "Median Price" for example, what happens ?
On my tablet everything is running fine, so I don't see where the bug is ?

Question to everyone : Would you like me to eventually add a few technical indicators to the charts, as an option. Would/Do you use these in fact ?

3 unhappy people so far, mainly because bitcoincharts.com was down a few hours and the charts were not loading up correctly.

Now sorry @nahtnam. I'm focusing on my expertise, which is 100% Android.

But I'm sure there will be members in this forum with some iOS expertise who could easily replicate this Android widget for iOS, isn't it ?

I think there are some applications that convert android apps to iOS apps but I don't think they work too well...

Yes indeed there are some. But they don't work quite well, and certainly not for a widget, which is more 'complex'.
Sorry but I really can't help on iOS.

This is what "Technical Indicators" are:

=> They are used by chartists (people using / 'reading' stocks charts) to further analyse price/volume behaviour of their favorite stocks.

It is also available for bitcoins on http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD (http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD), you can see these under the 5th column (under "Technical Indicators").
So basically I was asking everyone if it would be helpfull to add these to the widget settings or not  :-\

No, actually I dont think you are allowed to EDIT the poll to allow changes after it has been created.

Those technical indicators together with technical analysis 101 has proved to be a sure bet to lose your money in bitcoin but still i think you should add as many as you can  :-X

Please update to the widget version 2.00 if you want to test this new feature.

You will notice that "volume" is available in the indicators. This can be quite handy as personally I like to have volume displayed but not in the top panel (with price). I display volume as an indicator below the bitcoin chart. Here's an example:

So, how do you test this:

1. double click on your widget to enter the settings
2. Click on 'More Options'
3. Choose 'Technical Indicator #1' (Volume for example in the screenshot above) & 'Technical Indicator #2' (MACD for example)
4. Click OK

Hello everyone. I would need someone who has Android KitKat (Android 4.4) to confirm that everything is running fine on their device  :'( ?

Particularly, can you expand the widget to the full size of your screen (like in the screenshot I posted just before this post) ?
I'm asking because on my emulator**, I'm having some issues to do this  :-\

**an emulator is a tool used by developer to 'simulate' (on their PC) any mobile device out there on the market. it's not 100% perfect but a good proxy for developers to test screen sizes and Android versions.
Still, nothing better than a real device to test at the end !

That would be very nice because we need technical indicators added to the BTC Chart Widget tho.

@incepted just touch the widget once and it will refresh w/ real time data. what do you mean by dynamic refresh ? For the moment, it does refresh every 15 minutes or so automatically.
=> more than this would consume too much data, which is not necessary I would think  :'(

@nahtnam Thanks for the Genymotion website - I didn't know about it. I will try it out. Here is a screenshot of the emulator on my PC (S4 running Android KitKat):

As you can see, for some reason I can't expand the widget Full Screen. I think it's a problem with the emulator itself and I would just like a confirmation from someone having an S4 (and running KitKat eventually) that you can indeed expand the widget FULL SCREEN if you want to. Do you understand what I mean  ;) ?

Yeah, I get what you are saying. I can't think of anyone running kit kat although my mom has an s4. I don't think many people will get kit kat so you should be fine.

Great widget, I just happened to download this the other day.  It would be great to have a version that is a little bigger for smaller mobile devices (for example Samsung Galaxy S4).

@testthewhiterabbit can't you resize* the widget on your S4 to the full size of the screen ?

(*LONG CLICK on the widget and drop it on the homescreen, then drag on the dots appearing around the widget)

I'm thinking of giving away 5 copies of the PRO version once we reach this level, just to celebrate and exclusively for this forum's members!

The way I'm thinking about doing it is the following:

1. I post a message here on this thread when we reach 5.000 downloads
2. You post a message here on this thread to say that you want the PRO version of the widget (for free)=> First IN, first served basis ! So be quick.
3. Of course you download the PRO version of the widget after posting here and you send me your 'Order number' (you receive it in the email you get from Google Play).
4. I refund your purchase in full, of course through Bitcoin (you send me your bitcoin address as a Private Message through this forum). You need to trust me on this one that I will do it. Don't worry I will **

This way, you can keep the widget on your tablet/mobile phone and be updated as I publish new versions of the widget.
& I avoid the refund costs I have as a developer in Google Play itself (by the way, if I did a refund through Google Play, you would not be able to get the updates).

I have an old Samsung galaxy s1 but there is no way in hell I'm going back to that. :D

I guess that one day, we'll look back at these devices with nostalgy, like I do now on my old COMMODORE Computer and some of its games :P
My first Droid was an HTC one. I kept it because I spent some much time programming my first apps on it.
It's only about 5 years ago but it looks like it was 20 years ago  ::)

Would like to see some alt-currencies added one day, although I guess the information available is not as rich as it for btc.

yes indeed. I looked a little bit after charts as rich for Litecoins but couldn't find any. It needs to be an image format (png, jpg, gif, etc)  to display into a widget (I've got no solution right now to display flash or dynamic java charts I'm afraid).

If you see any good source I'd be happy to check it out.

The charts for these 3 only start in early Jan 2014 but will build as 2014 progresses ...

It should be noted that this "app" requires the bitcoincharts server to do the heavy lifting of rendering the chart - it simply loads the web site's remote image. You can bookmark the desired image yourself in your mobile browser if you can't run (or don't want to or can't trust) the app.

deepceleron is 100% right. The heavy lifting is done by Bitcoincharts.com, as I clearly stated in the app's description on Google Play :


I just pull the image with your favorite settings from this website and display it into a widget.
You would have the same result opening your browser using a bookmark.

The added benefit of the widget is in fact to be able to flip through a few timeframes (5 days, 10 days, 3 months, etc) in a few clicks on the widget.
Also, it's always on your homescreen and can be resized to your taste. You can even set it on your lock-screen.

I'm not trying the reinvent the wheel as Bitcoincharts.com does a fantastic job generating the charts. I give them 200% credit and full respect for this !

I'm wondering what's the exact use of this ? Am I supposed to receive the email address of my 'donators' (I don't know if the word exists in english, maybe its 'donor'?)
