Title: Where to buy bitcoin?
Post by: jogoma12 on November 30, 2013, 12:24:26 PM
Hey guys, I was looking to buy into bitcoin but at $1000 and growing, I'm not looking at buying a full coin. I'd like to buy about .01 just to invest in https://cex.io/r/1/jogoma12/0/ . Where can I buy this, or is it even worth buying such a small sum?

Edit: Willing to buy here and pay with amazon gift cards since paypal is not trusted

0.1 isn't "such a small sum" at all - it's 100 mBTC. You definitely shouldn't be put off by the fact you can't get a whole bitcoin; at this point, the vast majority of arrivers to the bitcoin scene have less than 1 BTC.

I personally think Localbitcoins.com is most user-friendly for people who are new to Bitcoin; it's where I bought my first BTC from earlier this year. You'll probably pay slightly over the average USD/BTC rate, but it doesn't require you to verify, which means you can buy BTC immediately rather than wait for a week to have your account verified.

Also you can buy from Bitstamp
Good Luck

Well spotted, I misread that. The point still applies - there are people here speculating that 0.01 could be worth at least $100 within the next year, so it's certainly not a bad idea to get in while it's $10 ;)

I've never used Bitstamp, but a lot of Localbitcoins sellers will have a minimum fiat -> BTC (e.g. you can only buy from them if you spend at least $100). There are some who'll sell any amount from $1, but you may pay a few dollars' premium for that service.

"0.1 small sum". Would'nt say so. Even if 0.1 sounds very small it does'nt mean that it is. In the future people might buy things with 0.001 BTC etc. ;)

Top result on Google from "Litecoin credit card". http://www.btcpedia.com/buy-litecoin-with-paypal-credit-card/

Can't vouch for that website's reliability, though.

kraken.com is good website. Also offers other cryptocurrencies you can buy with fiat money.

Actually did look at that link before. This is so confusing. Do all cryptocoins require first buying bitcoin?

I would recommend investing, even if it is a seemingly small sum. It could pay out very big in the future. Additionally, using Bitcoin is the best way to learn about Bitcoin, and that requires getting a little bit in your wallet. Send me a PM if you get a chance.

He stated he is looking to buy 0.01 not 0.1. Furthermore, restating the amount he wants to purchase in mB instead of BTC helps him no way.

Investing 10 dollars won't do much unless you intend to gamble with it. I personalturned $28.50 USD to $400 in a matter of days.

As I acknowledged later in the thread. Read the whole thing before you criticise people.

Gambling? You sound like an excellent person to be giving investment advice  ::)

Amount being small or big is not important. How you are thinking about yourself which is the attitude. There are chances that you may not achieve what you think. For example, you may not achieve any big profit from 0.1. However, as experience adds, you will get big profits after sometime.

Buying 0.01 BTC is best at localbitcoins, not worth sending SEPA bank transfers (or international) to exchanges because of higher bank fees

No, I'm pretty sure they're just a BTC wallet. You can send funds from there to BTC e or Mt. Gox to trade for alt coins, though.

Does anyone know what the process is like for putting USD into localbitcoin escrow? Like, is a lot of banking information required? Does verification take a long time? Is it better just to trade in person with cash?

I read about it on their website, but it was kind of vague....
