whenever a price thats good comes on mtgoxlive, i go to buy or sell and i cant get in b/c its so laggy or bots mass trading. there was a timespan of no greater than 1.00 minutes. yes, one entire minute where te price went from 8.5 to 7.0 and then back to 8.5 again. i logged in to place a buy @ 7.2 order and didnt get logged back in until the price was back at 8.5

PS a usa server would help :/

Me thinks this hurts normal traders more than botting traders and I cant be the only one, it happens every day at least twice.

and again... another price swing and i cant log in... the exact same thing. is someone possibly spamming the server so it lags while their bots are trading to keep humans out?

I guess ill just have to switch to an exchange that lets me load their page! Madness. (yes i know mtgox is fine 99% fo the time but whenever big swings are happening is the most important time to trade)

I was so slow today that I just gave up trying to put in a bid.

This downornot.com service is bullshit. It does trip over pretty much any commercial DDoS defense product. I don't know whose DDoS prevention service MtGox uses, but for Prolexic Technologies' it has more than 50% false negative rate. This means a legit HTTP/HTTPS GET/POST from a browser connects through the defense while downornot.com shows the site as down.

I assure you the site would not load for the periods i was attempting to access a trade order (i was already logged in to mtgox so i only needed to refresh the page) . Up to about a minute and 30 seconds at a time. then once the swings are over it loads like normal.

I frequently check MtGox, almost every time I have to refresh the page several times to get access.  Either because of bots or general volume.  I wouldn't keep my funds with them right now.

Having a site that cannot handle the trade load provides an unfair advantage to those who are able to access.  Especially if someone is attacking the site in a way that specifically makes it impossible for anyone else to trade.  His complaint is not only merited, but shed's light on a very good reason not to use MtGox.

if its taking longer than 3 seconds to load a page as simple as mtgox.com, there is a problem.

When I was trying today, it was taking over 120 seconds, then I would stop it and reload, and repeat, until after 4 or 5 tries it would finally load.

i dont understand why people constantly buy and sell. don't they realize you pay fees for every transaction? and that if you had 1% of a brain you see that bitcoin goes up and down very unpredictably.

I believe you. But adding more servers isn't a solution. The solution is to provide a rapid trading platform that behaves differently than the typical DDoS tool. Most of the online brokers have a Java applet just for that very purpose: it opens and maintains a single connection. I've heard that it is possible to do the same using Ajax and Websockets.

Again: adding more servers helps nobody. They will be as vulnerable to a DDoS as they are right now. The solution is to change the protocols from dumb to smart (JSON to FIX). Good luck with that!

are you a child or do you just possess the mind of one? The daily volume of the site would lead one to believe the owner could maintain a website that does not take minutes of refreshing to load. If that is your response to a legitimate grievance I question your general sanity and well being. Other than that I have no response because your post does not really dignify anything further.

Yes, TradeHill as a matter of fact.  I refuse to use MtGox, this reason among many.  Part of a Free Market is that it becomes self-regulating.  Companies that don't handle problems as obvious, and repairable, as this are going to shrivel and die.  Too big to fail does not exist in Bitcoin.

And re-reading your post I think you missed his point that EVERYBODY is entitled to trade.  Not just him, but everybody who pays their trading fees is expecting a standard of service.

I do think they make a substantial amount of money for what their product is, and the size of their market.  Even suffering significant damages from their latest fiascos with the password leak, I'm relatively (or more absolutely) sure that they will not survive if they do not continue to invest in the quality of their product.

Two possibilities have occurred to me now though.

One is that I see no reason to eliminate them as the botters, as they do have a motive to protect the size of their trading fees rate.

The other, on a lighter note, is that they are still working on security upgrades from the incident earlier this year, and have decided to include some way of staying the botters effect on the system.  In any case where they are intending to effect the botters they may not be willing to announce it till they can implement it, as it could cause the botters to escalate their activity drastically to maximize their abuse before the problem is handled.

As if that isn't enough. Current situation for Europeans: Highest Bid: 5.3000 Lowest Ask: 7.9000. MtGox doesn't have this stupid separation of markets, so the float is almost nonexistent for everybody. It's extremely slow, though.

I prefer a natural float to an artificial market.

I join the appeal that Mtgox upgrade its trading platform and/or servers.

It is extremely frustrating to watch price swings and not be able to login at mtgox - it took me over a minute and up to 3mins each time during the weekend.
It leaves an amateurish impression, taken that they have at least 1000$ profit per day and I would guess that less than 2000 people are actively using the site at any moment.

So, any upgrade news would be very appreciated.

mtgox.com did fine with higher volume in the past.  It is the bots throwing many requests in per second.  Charge for the requests or rate limit them. 

I think this is one of the potential upgrade options that have been suggested by the community, though maybe not in this thread.  I think this is a more long term/effective solution than creating more servers which could serve to allow more people to abuse bot manipulation.
