Title: Can you mine the same bitcoin twice?
Post by: musiek on December 01, 2013, 10:41:24 AM
I'm new to bitcoin and I was wondering if you can mine the same bitcoin twice? If so what happens then?

nope not possible, there are only a limited amount of bitcoins. So 'counterfit' bitcoins is also not possible theoretical!

Simple version of what mining is:
Mining bitcoins means that your computer calculates a very difficult mathematical equation. Which is that hard, you need to have dedicated software to do this. As a reward you get the bitcoin. Whent hat equation has made, there is no point in calculating it again.

actually it can happen that two different miners solve the block (and claim the reward) at the same time, but the network will choose who from these two miners should be the winner

Yup, one of the blocks will be orphaned, and eventually only one get the 25btc :)

Haha Welcome to the Bitcoin World

No that's impossible because each is unique and after a block is solved, it's solved

You can't solve it again

It depends on how much hasing power you have, how long ago the bitcoin was mined, and how much money you want to waste trying to re-mine instead of mining new blocks.
