Title: IP banned, how to resolve?
Post by: lethe on December 02, 2013, 10:38:36 PM
So yesterday I couldn't access https://bitcointalk.org anymore. I have flushed dns, checked that the ip address is correct, ping works, I can get a reply from port 80.

Currently I am accessing through a VPN, also tried Tor and it works.

So I can only conclude that my IP has been banned, I admit that I did a very liberal amount of page refreshing here Sunday but it was because I was trying to facilitate trades and needed to search for information.

How do I resolve this? Just PM Theymos or wat?

The DNS change might not have propagated to your ISP yet.

The forum got hacked yesterday and the dns changes don't apply for everyone at the same time. Give it some time.

Please be precise.  The forum itself was not hacked.  The DNS registrar was compromised and the domain was redirected to another server where there was the potential for a MITM to capture passwords and other personal information.  If people are connecting directly to 109.201.133.195 with the expected SSL sha256 fingerprint below then they should theoretically be okay.

Yeah ok i wasn't writing a report of something for the problem.

Also how do you check the sha 256 fingerprint? I was checking for the sha 1 fingerprint 29:0E: ... bla bla bla ... : 6B

If the forum itself was not hacked why then I couldn't connect to it even if I entered this ip address directly into the browser address field (and what works perfectly now)? I tried many times throughout the whole day without success and thought they were moving the forum to another hoster...

Because someone was also running a DDoS attack as well. Not sure why, as all they did was hinder their own attempts to gather login info, if it was the same folks. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

Is there a single hacker in the world right now that isn't after bitcoin wallets or bitcointalk or anything at all that's related to bitcoin even in the slightest?  :P
