For people who have made a livelihood on fighting the Fed, having the Fed disappear means loosing their job and it scares them. A few are transitioning to the other side and making real effort to fix things, but most appear to not want to. Same type of stalemate behavior is going on in the War on Drugs, War on Terror, etc., and nearly everybody in a position of power is working towards a stalemate that keeps the money flowing to them rather than actually fixing the problem.
