Title: How many ASIC Block Erupters?
Post by: ritzyhalo on December 03, 2013, 11:32:49 PM
If I were to set up a rig, how many block erupters would I need in order to actually make it worth it? I had 3 erupters but well wasn't too good :p and would a Neptune/Jupiter be worth that much money?

Its always worth it to support the network and mine but I would say that you need to fill up at least one 49 port hub to make it remotely worthwhile

If by "worth it" you mean making immediate profit. than no investment in mining equipment is worth it. with current difficulty and average price per GH/s buyers are paying to buy hardware, you will hardly see 80% roi at best on your machines.

It by "worth it" you mean, supporting the community and network, then buy whatever you feel comfortable with, and help keep bitcoin alive.

Currently the best investment a person can make in mining hardware is the Hashfast BabyJet, and the upgrade is quite reasonable too. its durable mining equipment that will last you a few years if water cooled and taken care of, and you can get them for around $4.00 - $6.00 per GH/s. if your thinking of spending big i would go that route. if you want to go small. buy up peoples used blades from ebay.still at best you will get hashing power for about $100 per GH/s on blades these days.

Sorry, should've specified. Even though I'm new, I really like the community and would like to support bitcoins. Only problem is I'm still fairly young, and can't get much money for bitcoins/mining. With maybe around $300 (with buying more over time), could I get an ok rig going, that'll help me get some more bitcoins into the system?

Blades are selling for $1000? Group Buy costs (if they're still in stock anywhere) are around $400 exchanged, for 10GH (14 if you can overclock).

With such a low startup cost you are probably best to just invest in block erupters then. usually around 335 MH/s and scalable so you can buy more as you can afford. just a lot of money for such low hashing rate. but every little bit helps

You can use block eruptors to see what its like to mine. But profit will be very low even when you combine many of them.Do some calculations first with calculators.
