Title: 2013 Dec: BFGMiner or CGminer or phoenix?
Post by: vision3001 on December 04, 2013, 09:42:43 AM
Am currently deciding to use one of these:
  • 1. BFGMiner
  • 2. CGminer
  • 3. phoenix

Having read several postings within "Mining software (miners)", it is not clear to me which is the best miner.

From the forum,
  • Observation 1: cgminer, having the highest replies and views seems like the obvious/best choice?
  • Observation 2: phoenix, having a higher views/replies ratio seems to suggest that its a rising star and could be better than cgminer?
  • Observation 3: BFGMiner, wanted to give this a consideration, even though it seems to be least 'popular' among the 3

Would appreciate any response here.

I have actually had better luck with older versions of CGminer than BFG. On win 8.1 64bit CGminer past 3.6 doesnt seem to want to work for my GPU and I have yet to experiment enough with BFG to find a version that works either. Never actually used phoenix so I couldnt tell you how well it works.

Cgminer ftw.

Thanks.

Would the 2nd choice be BFGMiner or phoenix for you?

I had to underclock my cores in both my GPU's as they sit 100% next to each-other. (i have a order of riser cables, though probably 2 weeks till i receive them)

With that said when i underclocked BFGMiner gave me much better hashing than what cgminer did with the same configuration, running: 2x - Asus Matrix Radeon R9 280x

Am concern with the need to tweak the cores. I read that phoenix has these settings below, however am not sure if the processing is more efficient than the other two.

Vectors on / Aggression Default / FastLoop off = ~29.5MH/s
Vectors off / Aggression Default / FastLoop off = ~32MH/s
Vectors off / Aggression Default / FastLoop on = ~41MH/s
Vectors off / Aggression 3 / FastLoop on = ~46MH/s desktop lag barely noticeable
Vectors off / Aggression 4 / FastLoop on = ~47.5MH/s with noticeable desktop lag
Vectors off / Aggression 5 / FastLoop on = ~49.5MH/s but quite a bit of desktop lag
Vectors off / Aggression 7 / FastLoop off = ~50MH/s but extreme desktop lag
Vectors off / Aggression 7 / FastLoop on = ~51MH/s but extreme desktop lag
