In fact we're using almost default setup for SMF with additional patches to fix security vulnerabilities. About the forum money, the only reason Theymos has collected so much money is because he didn't spend it. He could've spent most of it back when BTC was under $1 and the forum would now have very little money. The development of new forum software does need to hurry on though... He got all that coin and we only got this BS trust system to show for it. Thermos is like that lazy scumbag landlord that wants to sit back and collect.
