Title: Want to create a own cryptocurrency
Post by: Anja on December 05, 2013, 02:55:27 PM
Hello,

i am a advertisement agency. I manage some internet projects for a client. Now my client asks me to code a own cryptocurrency for him like bitcoin, litecoin...

I have absolutly no expirience with this kind of development. I also tried to find a freelancer for this, but most of them are not trustable to give this task. Now i am looking in this way for somebody who can help me to realize this project.

Please send me your ideas and advices. I am thankfull for every help. It is my biggest client and i have to anwer him soon.

Another altcoin? There are so many already.. Why don't you  let him make use of other existing altcoins?

However, for people with scripting knowledge it is quiet easy (atleast, I'm told so). There are also topics about how to create a new coin, with a kind of how-to. Use the search function of this forum and you'll find it.

Have to say I agree - there's no need for any additional alt-coins unless they bring something useful and innovative along with them (like namecoin, for example) - you'll be doomed to obscurity otherwise.

What kind of idiot hires an advertising agency to code a cryptocurrency, a project that could potentially leave you liable for billions in losses if you screw it up, assuming it actually becomes successful, which it won't because there's no demand for yet another cryptocurrency, when you have no experience with such a project? Someone's not telling you the whole story.

I dunno. Some of the altcoins are entertaining. I think the thing that makes new ones stand out is some kind of improvement or innovation. But so many of them are little more than Litecoin with a new picture on it. If you're seriously into the idea, you'll need C++ skills, a copy of QT creator. There's a project on Github called foocoin, which is designed as a starting point for people interested in starting their own coins. Though, looking at the repo, I think it might have been deleted. There should be others, but it will require some Google-fu.

If the motivation here is actually making any money, though, might I recommend trading existing altcoins instead of creating one? Trading is a much more efficient use of computing power than mining, and it's potentially a lot more profitable than creating your own coin.

If the motivation is branding, I would strongly advise against trying to sell this idea to your client. Even if you do manage to get it traded, if the thing crashes, it'll make your client look like an idiot. Then there's long term support issues. You'll need to be working on this constantly. What happens if you need to fork your blockchain?
