Title: Can Government track Bitcoin 'Anonymous' Addresses? Post by: StuffSneak on December 05, 2013, 07:55:16 PM A while ago, I was browsing the interwebs about Bitcoin and other coins, then I noticed a strange term and condition on a trading website.
After looking at more sites I noticed that the government had a large foothold in the economy. These sites allow the government to track and manage who exactly owns a certain wallet and anything done with the funds inappropriately leaves you held account for. The following was from BTC-e Quote BTC-e may be requested at any time to share trade data including, but not restricted to, emails, user transactions, and trade data by government authorities. Users may be asked for, as appropriate, name, email address, phone number. These terms are the same on every exchange site that has conditions of use and if you are to be involved in illegal activities such as hacking or purchasing illegal material you will be caught out. Make sure you only use addresses for trading and use different addresses for illegal activity that has no relation to you or your identity. It doesn't look like a big deal, but I'll bet people are still getting caught up from the Silk Road takedown, where users were tracked by purchases and/or trading. Unless planned, activity via internet and crypto currencies, however secure you think they are will make you be always caught out. What do you think? Post by: replikent on December 06, 2013, 09:10:08 AM The records of every transaction are public, so if you used the same address more than once it may not be difficult to end up linking it to an individual. But if it is something you are concerned about, just be aware of how you reuse addresses and when you publicly link them to yourself. Or to be safe treat them as disposable.
Though with so many sites offering 'free bitcoins' trying to get your address, it makes me wonder why they want to collect them. People with big accounts would never mess with this websites as they aren't worth their time (one whole day of clicking ads is worth $0.05) Title: Re: Can Government track Bitcoin 'Anonymous' Addresses? If you use your software wallet via tor.... that may be tricky.

If you use your software wallet via tor.... that may be tricky. That is partly true, as long as you never disclose your bitcoin address, then they can't trace you back.
