Title: Newbie restrictions..
Post by: detroitswindle on December 06, 2013, 12:46:21 AM
It's been over 4 hours since I signed up but I still can't post elsewhere on the forum?

You have to post once and also wait four hours (maybe both, not sue, my reading comprehension only slightly better than yours I guess).

Try again elsewhere now and if you still can't, you'll be good in four hours.

I'm also a newbie. Reading this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177133.0  it seems to say that you also need to have participated, in a meaningful way, before some of the restrictions are lifted.

I don't know if you also need to make a request, or if it happens automatically.  I'm still limited although I've been on the board over 4 hours and have a post. I'm going to guess that my post wasn't significant enough for the moderators to think me not a troll.  LOL

I'm hopeful it'll sort itself out because I have some questions that I'd like to ask on some other threads.

This link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=15911.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=15911.0) mentions that after 5 posts on the Newbie board (the only board us newbies can post to) you'll be automatically upgraded, and it's more recent than the link above. Possibly, now 5 posts are required before the restrictions are removed?

Hello,

Before my first post (replying to another newbie request) I couldn't send private message to a user.
After I could but unfortunately I can't reply to another post in another part of the forum except the newbie  :o

finally I see why I can't post in this forum.

This board rules are very annoying.

Not to be able to post after registrating is unusually. So I thought it was my fault.

Finally Finally I found my mistake

That links to a thread made on June 2011.
Why don't you check the sticky newbie readme lol.

I've been on the board 4 hours and 14 minutes and have 6 posts, and I still can't post anywhere but the newbies section. This has to be the most restrictive forum I've ever been on and I'm about to give up and go elsewhere if I don't get the restrictions lifted soon. I understand the need to keep spammers out, but this is ridiculous!

wow! At least everyone's position here is "newbie".  I've been "brand new" for a while.  I finally found this newbee forum and realized they have all these restrictions!  I wish they told us this when we first registered.  I thought it was a time limit or a moderater had to give you the ok after a day or two.  Man, I registered 4 days ago!

How long exactly is the waiting period?  Someone mentioned 5 posts required in order to get the higher status.  I'm not even a newbie yet!  I'm still brand new and I registered my account several days ago! grrr.

I signed up to PM a specific member who runs a pool.  Can't contact them through the pool's site because the support form does not work.  I need to get at the transaction ID I used to send funds to Coins-E, as the funds didn't show up in my account there.  Next time I'll send to a wallet first, just in case.  :)

So, now I'll wait a few hours so that I can PM.

Title: Re: Newbie restrictions..
Post by: Ludwig Von Mises on December 13, 2013, 03:49:02 AM
Here is my first post... and so there is something meaningful:

I followed bitcoin from the early days, and did a little mining in 2011.  Unfortunately due to financial constraints (family and student loans) I did not keep my coins.   ::)

So now I am starting over again, buying in tranches with average price of $850.  But no worries, I am confident bitcoin will reach $10,000+ someday.

But more importantly, I am a believer in bitcoin.  I see the potential to revolutionize the world.

In the meantime, it is making my life, and life of my friends who are also expats, much easier.

I live in China, and moving changing money from $USD <-> China Yuan (RMB) is always costly nuisance, as is wire transfering money to my US bank with high fees!  Bitcoin makes this so much easier, and I can actually make a profit with each transaction (provided the price stays > 850).

As I need RMB, I sell some bitcoin on btcchina, and also benefit from the arbitrage spread -- price difference between BTC on coinbase in USD and RMB on btcchina.  The difference is narrowing but still there -- often 10%+.

It turns out foreigners can open accounts on btcchina, providing their passport #.  However you can only exchange BTC for RMB, meaning you must have a bank account in China... not difficult to do if you live here, or even visit for some period of time.

With each transaction I try to buy a little more than I sell, of course trying to time "buy low, sell high" as possible.  My goal is to accumulate > 10 coins in the next 3 to 6 months.

Best wishes to all of you, good luck, and may the BitCoin force be with you!   :)

did you guys figure it out yet is it 5 posts or 4 hrs?

I went from "Brand New" to "Newbie" after 2 posts.  Then I went from "Newbie" to "Jr. Member" at 4 posts.  Don't know about the 4 hour limit as I've been on here much longer than that; although under Total Time logged in: 2 hours & 56 minutes!

Hmmm, so there may be something about the 4 hour limit.

I am hopeful my reply in this chain will be sufficient for allowing me to post.

I love this site, and I am intrigued by Bitcoin.

I've been mining with 333 Block Eruptors for about a month, but sold them off during the rush.

I'm looking to get a TH/s miner after the new year, and really help the Bitcoin revolution!

Thanks,

There are tons of faucet sites that giving some tiny amount of bitcoin.
But, IMHO, it just don't worth the time to collect them.

There are also sites "giving" away free bitcoins if you watch videos, etc.  I'd rather just mine them.

Hmmmm, how many hours you have logged at the top of your screen?

Mine was under 3 hours before I became a Jr. Member.

Yeah it was weird, I've moved on to junior status. However at that time I already had >10h logged.
So was confused on what was going on.. the forum seems to update a bit slowly...

So I understand correctly, I need 5 posts to be a jr. member and post elsewhere?

The login time does not matter at all.
To get jr member, you need to make a post and then wait 4 hours (no need to login)

i'm newly signed up too.  I've been reading and researching for awhile though.   I didn't know about the post count requirement for newbies until I read this thread.

It's been over 4 hours since I signed up but I still can't post elsewhere on the forum?

Uhm reading the susbriction notes, I saw you have just top post once but you have to wait 4 hours.
But if you read it carefully it's wrote your post has to be several sentences, not just hi i am here.
Probabbly they double check the new entries being sure thay are not simply copy pasting a message but they are really taking part to the agrument.
I am 1 hours and 4 minutes now so fingers crosse I guess for tonight I will be able to send pm.
If i got it good with 10 posts you have right to write ((guess starting a discussion))

Do I need to post 1 reply (or new thread) in Newbies section and wait or can I wait first and post later? Does it have to be in order? This is my 2nd post. By reading the posts on the first few pages, do I need to post just 1 or it has to be 5 posts? (So I can post to other sections)

Thanks!

Writing this post because I have to, never encountered such annoying rules on any forum before.

Me neither, but I guess it's there to cut down spam and seems to work quite effectively.

Do I need to wait 4 hours and make ten posts or is it just 4 hours and one post?

I have encountered similar rules, although with much shorter waiting period :-P
But yeah, kinda sucks when you want to post something in a more relevant thread.

Thanks. I understand why the 6 minute wait is there, but what's most annoying is having to type my comment out again. Done this a few times.
