Title: Block #273374 OLDER than block #273373 ? How is it possible???
Post by: antaresteleko on December 06, 2013, 12:37:54 PM
Hi,

I just noticed that as per blockchain.info that block #273374 (https://blockchain.info/es/block-index/444969/0000000000000004a703f57b60804beef1cb27eac099dda2e5073d42a4b193d0) seems to be OLDER than block #273373 (https://blockchain.info/es/block-index/444968/0000000000000003b278153ecfa80a85c6226bd2b30068b16e448665a0489d56). ¿How could this be possible? Could it just be a delay in blockchain.info's reception time?

Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

It's happened before.  The timestamp is not so important on a scale of block to block, in this case there is clearly a small error in the timestamp because the miner of block 273374 clearly had in hand block 273373 as she included hash of it in her block.  Timestamps become important when it is time to set difficulty, which is why we wait two weeks to adjust the difficulty.. these kind of small errors go out in the wash.
