Title: Mining different coins simultaneously
Post by: voipferg on December 06, 2013, 06:38:31 PM
Hello Again,
Greetings. Peace.
Will a mining computer have any issue(s) mining different coins simultaneously?
If it is possible, can you suggest others in addition to BitCoin?

Thanks

Only merged mined ones.
At most pools you mine Bitcoin together with NameCoin

Where are the merged mining pools?

A user on Reddit asked this question a number of weeks ago and the general consensus is that the return would be too little / not worth it.

CPU coin on CPU and GPU coin on GPU ;)

CPU coins: ProtoShares, YaCoin, QuarkCoin, PrimeCoin, DataCoin, ...

Thanks for the replies.
So with my Block errupter running and mining Bitcoin, can I also be mining Litecoin, Novacoin, Digitalcoin on the same computer?
Please forgive the newbie questions.

Thanks

No, with Block errupter you can mine only SHA256D coins like Bitcoin.

Litecoin, Novacoin, Digitalcoin are Scrypt coins minable with GPU and you can mine only one at a time

Thanks. That answers my question.
Now the search for SHA256D coins. Any suggestions?

Peace.

Agreed, as I say this I'm mining one altcoin on CPU and another on GPU  ;)

It's generally inferior to mine multiple coins simultaneously, as one will always be more profitable than the other and so it'd just be better to mine that one exclusively. However, you can use an auto-switching pool like https://hashco.ws to mine whatever's most profitable at the moment, while being paid out in Bitcoin.

Sha256D coins are even too difficult for GPU or too vulnerable to 51% attacks with ASICs. I think it's better to look on Scrypt coins (Litecoin and other).

Just another note: combining CPU and GPU mining with 100% loaded CPU decreases GPU performance about 10%. To avoid this use N - 1 cores for CPU mining.

You can mine both a CPU and a GPU coin at the same time.  Also, merged mining is a possibility for many coins.
