Title: Does Bitcoin make it legal to be a pimp?
Post by: coins101 on December 08, 2013, 06:20:48 PM
If governments don't consider bitcoins legal tender or currency, does it make pimping legal?

In all seriousness, I couldn't look my mother in the face and tell her I was about to go into the pimping business because BTC is not regarded as a currency and therefore selling honey for money would not be considered illegal.

Like a teen with too many hormones, I was just curious about the legal implications of people in the oldest profession deciding that they would be happy to accept BTC (not that it crossed my mind to, erm, well, you know, do anything about it.)

I know the legal frameworks can be different in different countries.

Gardening is the oldest profession not prostitution as so many believe.

Prostitution for goods is also prostitution and illegal wherever prostitution is illegal. One exception to this are arranged marriages and marriages for money that, in my view, are a form of prostitution by barter (if not human traficking in the former case) but often legal.  Pimping is more often illegal than prostitution.

Assuming you want to use Bitcoin to evade the law, then it is not the absolute best way to pay for prostitution either because it's not private (though it can be anonymous).

Sourceless but very googlable. :P
