Title: Mining Speed Difference
Post by: Axez D. Nyde on August 11, 2011, 02:23:12 PM
Hey there, I am using guiminer to run phoenix miner. My displayed hashrate in guiminer is somewhere around 385 MHash/s. But the homepage of the pool I'm in is displaying something around 450 MHash/s. Does anyone know where this discrepancy comes from and whom I can trust (more)?

Can't answer this question for you but i thought i'd chime in to say i'm having the same issue only my hashrate according to the pool is about 4x what it is on my guiminer. The hasrate displayed on my gui seems more trustworthy to me as it varies depending on what else i'm doing on my computer and is more in line with what is expected performance-wise from my hardware.

The pool site doesn't know your actual hash rate, it just guesses based on how many shares you submit.

Well it can't 'know' my actual hashrate because I could cheat. But the site know how many works I requested and if it assumes I hashed them all (Gotta Hash'em' all! :D ) then it can 'know' my hashrate.

So they just assume at (share-)difficulty X it takes let's say 1000 MHashes to generate a valid share and then they count my submitted shares and multiply by that Hash/share rate to get my speed?

Well then that also explains the large variance in pool speed, I was wondering if people really are jumping on and off that much.
