Title: [ANN][Datacoin] krypte.net - store and browse files in the blockchain
Post by: cryptrol on December 10, 2013, 12:04:00 AM
Announcing krypte.net

A datacoin service for uploading/downloading data from the blockchain.

           |___/|_|

What can you do with https://krypte.net ?
  • Online wallet send/receive coins.
  • If you want to get data from the blockchain, take note of the transaction ID of the data and go to the Get data function on the website, for example : c60f6173aa6c4dce76bf48a75cbadc29c1bd85a3c5b349a469cea7c135ea09a8
  • If you want to send data (128K max) you need funds for the datacoin fee (0.05 per kilobyte plus 0.06 service fee per download), in order to fund your account, go to Account information and take note of your address, then go to the Datacoin client and just send some funds to that new address.
  • Create direct download links for a transaction ID. This way you can share the data with anyone with just a single click in a link. This feature is free at the moment.
  • Browse and download the files stored by others on the blockchain.

You can help build the service by reporting issues and also asking for new features. If you want to support further development and server costs, please send some data love by sending DTC.
Support krypte.net :
DTC: DLjcy3vu8KhMGbqbEtRcrGQUEweuMpiZqs
BTC: 1BynKGAvBNprNLDFmix8LXtt8g5yGch1iD

Also, we love feedback.

Umm you do understand the POINT of datacoin right?  In order to put DATA into the blockchain, you pay COINS.
Datacoins.

Might want to update the title to something like "[ANN][DTC][Datacoin] krypte.net - store files in the blockchain" because even for me it didn't catch my eye that this was related to DTC.

Also, I intensely disagree with fees that high so early, ESPECIALLY for simple withdrawals.  I know I don't even feel comfortable moving my funds there atm because I know I'm going to be charged when I withdraw.  If you want the site to have the usefulness of somewhere like Blockchain.info, there must not be fees for simply moving your money.

feedbacks are always good :) It's awesome that such applications are created, and it's normal that some changes should be applied basing on feedbacks.

You are right, DTC is still little known to most.

Regarding the fees, the standard client fee for sending coins is 0.05, so I just added 0.01 which is not much in my opinion. The network fees for sending data are 0.05 per Kb I am just keeping 0.05 per upload which again is not much.

Thanks for your feedback.

One more feature request.
Can you add 'get data' function even for those who is not registered or logged in? Use case: I'm a man who needs quickly get some info by transaction id. I don't want to download blockchain, I even don't have time to register. I go to krypte.net, insert TX id and download file.

I am kinda planning this feature, but I am still thinking about how to implement it. Don't you think that enabling this downloads would make it too transparent for the user ? I mean someone could download it without even knowing that he is using the Datacoin infrastructure.
This seems a nice feature but not sure I want it this way ... any ideas welcome.

Sounds right. Also I thought that your app now cannot know format of downloading file - maybe it was gzipped or rar'ed. It will be implemented by Perl envelope later, but not just now.

When downloading block data from krypte.net the MIME type of the file you are requesting is detected so that if you are opening a compressed file, the file will open with Winrar, 7zip or any other tool that you may have installed. If the data you request is an image the type is also detected and the corresponding program in your computer is used (this is done by the web browser). This is also true for PDF and a lot of other file types.
It's just MIME magic.

Cryptrol went offline, but he didn't notify all of you that he implemented one awesome feature. I'll do it, you can check it on krypte.net ! :)

Quote
The new feature it's done and for now it's free, it's called fund download and it let's you create a direct download link to the data file without having to be logged in or know about DTC.
I intend to charge a very small fee for this service in the future, not sure when, still thinking about ways to monetize the service.

Currently free. You just need to register an account to use it.

More to come.

Hey i tested it and it is excellent :) Very simple and fast!

Btw is it possible to calculate fees before the upload?

Thank you for usingthe site.

It's not implemented but it's really trivial to calculate them. The fees are 0.05 DTC for every kilobyte of data plus a single fee of 0.06 DTC kept by the site.

So if you want to upload a 34Kb file the fee would be (34*0.05)+0.06 = 1.76 DTC

You can see the fee charged to your account on the latest transactions that appear on every DTC page (once the first transaction is made).

Just wanted to share that we have successfully uploaded a big file (290K ok, not that big) into the datacoin blockchain, download functionality is already implemented at https://krypte.net , we will put the upload big file functionality in place later today or tomorrow.

Also, I have been thinking about how to give exposure to Datacoin, one possibility would be to accept payments in other currencies to upload data to the Datacoin network. This also would alleviate the current lack of a serious exchange and leverage Datacoin as a service utility, not just a currency.
We could offer krypte.net users the opportunity to sell their DTC in exchange of BTC or other alts, we are not sure about that point. And implementing this is somehow harder, anyway I would like to know what do you people think about it.

EDIT: Donation addresses for the krypte : DTC DLjcy3vu8KhMGbqbEtRcrGQUEweuMpiZqs , BTC 1BynKGAvBNprNLDFmix8LXtt8g5yGch1iD

EDIT2: Big files are now live on krypte.net, from now on you can upload files up to 1Mb. using the envelope protocol.

YOUR FEEDBACK IS MUCH APPRECIATED !

And i believe the idea is good. krypte is trusted and for sure will help having more ways to exchange btc for dtc.

Well, you are right. I was thinking about it the moment i wrote the comment :) No i dont! :D

But someone who is active with developing tools for a coin is at least more trusted for me than someone that only operates an exchange!

So krypte is going to be a BTC/DTC exchange :) Thats very very nice!

Althought i know its more work and probably you dont like copy clones would you consider to add also some major other coins to be exchanged with Datacoin? Maybe in the future?

For example litecoin, peercoin, namecoin, primecoin but also maybe dogecoin, earthcoin etc?

It would be nice krypte.net to be a Datacoin specific exchange for other coins...It would be bring many people to krypte services i believe...

Starting on 27/04/2014 the online wallet feature will be dropped.
You have until then to transfer your coins out of the wallet to your own datacoin wallet.
After that date, the funds will be frozen, you will be able to withdraw them by submitting a request on our website or spend them uploading data as always.

Why we do that ?
The risks involved in running an online wallet are high and costly. Our resources are (very) small and we don't want to spend our time in wallet maintenance .
Having more nodes in the network (people running the datacoin-qt wallet for example) will really help.

Just to be absolutely clear, we are not dropping Datacoin support, just the online wallet feature. We want to concentrate our little resources in developing new features and improving the currently available ones.
