Title: Overclocking a USB ASIC
Post by: CryptoMine on December 10, 2013, 01:00:27 AM
Hey - I'm on Ubuntu with cgminer.. How do I overclock a USB ASIC?

I have a Red Fury which should be 2.2-2.7Gh/s - I want to make it reach it's full 2.7 possibility!! :)

They can not be software over clocked.

Do a search for "pencil mod."  It works on both the red fury and blue fury models.  I have two red furys running at ~2.8-2.9 GH/s.  You can tune it by playing with how much graphite you lay down with the pencil.

Or if you're feeling brave you can connect the two points used in the 'pencil mod' with a 100k pot and slowly reduce the resistance whilst measuring the ASIC voltage.

What is the value of the resister for the pencil mod?

How does raising the core voltage help anything without also adjusting the PLL?

Has there been any work done in undervolting miners like those?

Or you can try to find a Drillbit USB and hit 3gh/s with no mods needed.

MCU may check Vin rail. or try dynamic osc6 bits and if too many errors it reduces. until someone make a custom FW or the original source is Reverse engineered or released who knows but it works

I have 2, what setting are you using?
