Title: New E-Wallet: Bitcoin Debit Cards (iPhone app comming very soon)
Post by: Anonymous on August 12, 2011, 02:27:18 AM
**UPDATE: We will be providing in site trade hill functionality. With one click transfer coins between trade hill and bitcoin debit cards. Buy and sell right from one place. NOTE: WE ARE NOT IMPLEMENTING MT. GOX DUE TO A VERY WEAK API COMPARED TO TRADE HILL**
**UPDATE 2: We have completely redesigned the entire site. Take a look and give us your opinions https://bitcoindebit.net**
**UPDATE 3: An iPhone App is in the works and will be out within 2 weeks**
So I have a new e-wallet service. I call it bitcoin debit cards. It is a system where you have a physical bitcoin debit card and you use your 16 digit card number and your undefined length pin number (selected by user after activation, not static/printed on card) to spend bitcoins at any accepting merchant. You can also use the service as a killer e-wallet. We have features like ajax wallet info pages, soon we will have desktop and mobile applications that allow you to charge anyone's card simply by scanning the barcode. Also, anyone who opens an account will recive a starter balance from us as a gift for supporting us. We ship one card for $1 (converted to bitcoins). When you get your card you go to our site, punch in your number and that gives you access to your account page. You can send bitcoins only after setting up a pin number. We have a POST API for merchants. A single call is required to charge a card.

Try it out now at https://bitcoindebit.net/
Or order right now at https://bitcoindebit.net/order.php

Thanks,

Be careful with details, this logo is ugly.

But your idea is fantastic although i believe that the merchant card technology should be decentralized and open source, so any merchant could buy a cheap Bitcoin POS or build himself in accord with the protocol.

Wouldn't that be an interesting piece of hardware to build: a pos terminal specifically for bitcoins.

Well that would be pretty cool. We should all go to a major POS terminal maker and propose our idea...  ;D

A question:

Why the people would want a POS card which is not usable at the present?

A question:

Why the people would want a POS card which is not usable at the present?

because it acts as an e-wallet also, and that e-wallet functionality is amazing. I use it more then I used to use mybitcoin, it has ease of use, and is very similar to the real bitcoin app. And also to get in early on a service that may grow up to be something big. Who knows?  :)

Ah and... It hasn't HTTPS.

I'll wait for a more serious attempt of Bit-card.

I have worked on HTTPS, with failure. I cannot obtain a co.cc https certificate, so I tried self signing, and that caused some browsers not to even consider going to my site. If you have any idea on how I can get a cert signed for a co.cc domain, let me know. I would love to have https asap.

Cough up some money for a .com to redirect your co.cc (with $_REQUEST pushed to .com)...

Another problem with that is bitcoindebit.com is taken. I have e-mailed the owner about purchase with no response.  That was what I wanted to do all along

I was up to a similar problem since bitcar.com is taken(and owned by the Korean gvmt).
I dunno if this'll help you, but godaddy has a feature where you can buy the domain from the domain holder if there's no domain protection on it for really cheap(like $20 cheap), but they also have regular domain name purchasing. My 2 cents on the subject.

It is actually 69 dollars to do that. And I do not have that kind of money to get one domain. Thanks for the suggestion.

Maybe it's less to me because I'm already a godaddy member?
Anyhow, if you do go dot com, you could always try bitcoindebtcard.com.
Just my 2 cents on the matter.

I can get bitcoindebit.net with ssl for $12 at namecheap, so I think that is what I will do...

Great news. I moved the domain, and now all I have to do is wait until I have my certificate and then install it onto my server. Then setup a redirect, and we will be up and running with HTTPS.

That is what I am working on as we speak (and waiting for that certificate to go through). It will be written in java so It is the same app for all OSs. I just finished an internal API for our desktop apps yesterday, so I am ready to provide that too. Let time pass, and soon that software will be available. In the mean time why don't you try us out. It only costs a dollar to get a card. Go to our site.

I pmed you,
Also I mocked up a better card design, also instead of a hologram you could overlay a QR code containing the information the barcode would have.

Are you going to be a central authority then? Allow chargebacks and anti-fraud measures?

i.e. someone gets your pin since you did a transaction with them, and they charge you your entire wallet?

I'm sure he's not BUT when I was about to pay for something I totally thought was something else, then I was about to feel scammed. If I had not took a second and found this thread, then I would have received something I totally thought I didn't buy in the mail and would have been pissed. There should be a picture on the site, why isn't there?
