Title: Need some help getting my bitcoins
Post by: seenolare on December 10, 2013, 09:09:25 PM
So I created an account at a site and sent by bitcoins from my wallet to that site, the next time I went back there, it said that the credentials were incorrect. I wrote everything down so this was weird. I contacted the support and they told me to send a specific amount to the address so i can prove that I own the account.

I am asking for a loan of .00015 BTC
I will pay you back within the week or whenever I get my money back at .0003 BTC.

If you could please let me know and I will send you my wallet address

Thank you

So it looks like you were most likely scammed and you want to send them more bitcoin?

Sending coins to an address doesn't prove that you own it.

Could you provide the name of the website , and the transaction?
Also it does look like you're being scammed on this one.

Sending coins to an address doesn't prove that you own it.

It proves that he owns the adress from which he is sending the amount / has sent the previous one.
Of course there are some other ways so proving you own an address , and this one smells fishy.

I was sending them to bitcoin fog (all you need to make an account is a username and password), and it wasn't that much. The support sent me this message

As an anonymous service we have to be very careful with such requests because they can easily be attempts to steal someone else's account, or to even simply gain any information about accounts or addresses. (For example whether certain addreses even belong to the Fog.)

Do you have the actual address that has sent the deposit transaction? Can you send a test transaction from that exact same address somewhere in the amount of 0.00007031 (or more but with those last 4 digits) so that we can know that you own it?

It does smell fishy but I don't know how else they would know that it's me if all they require to sign up is a username and password. And they are asking for such a small amount to be sent there that I thought I might as well try

It sounds strange, what website you are talking about ?

In the grand scheme of things, sending them 0.00007031 BTC would hardly be worth their time unless they're just trying to keep up the charade. You really haven't got anything to lose if we're taking a few pence/cents.

I see, If they wanted just to prove ownership of a Bitcoin address, they would just ask to sign message with the Bitcoin address mentioned.

That's a bit weird, 15 cents isn't worth scamming yet it still feels like you have been scammed.

Seriously, even for a Nigerian scammer (no offence to anybody from Nigeria), 15 cent is not worth the time. Unless they can trick you into sending more and more.
