Title: Isn't this volatility a good thing?
Post by: CoinGroin on December 11, 2013, 05:11:39 AM
Personally, I panicked a bit last week as I watched the price plunge.  But the way the price has slowly crept back up is incredibly reassuring, making me want to invest even more.

My question is this: isn't it a good thing that the price of bitcoin, on a daily basis, is so volatile?  Doesn't that just show how young it is and how much potential it has to grow.  In a couple years, the price could swing hundreds of dollars/day, but when it is worth $100,000 those swings aren't as big of a deal.

I don't think there is much to worry about when the price swings at such an early point in this new technology.  There are still many new people entering the market all the time to drive the prices up.  A lot of early adopters which have millions of dollars worth can dump large amounts and make the price go down.  These swings will lessen in the years to come when relatively small numbers of traders can't have such large affects.

This isn't a good thing for small investors. But worth for big investors and for whom can wait for a long time.

For some investors, it is better to invest in alt coins and take profit after a while.

Personally, I panicked a bit last week as I watched the price plunge.

I have faith in the long term potential of bitcoin.  As such, a price drop is not a reason to panic, it's a reason to get excited and celebrate.  The more the price droped, the more bitcoins I bought (cheap coins! Yeah!).

But the way the price has slowly crept back up is incredibly reassuring, making me want to invest even more.

Having dumped all my available cash into bitcoins as the price dropped, I've got nothing more to invest now that the price has recovered.  Instead, I took advantage of the rise to sell those cheap coins at a profit.
