Did anyone notice the runup (not this past one) was right when the Cyprus banks did the bail in?  THat is one thing I would bank on pushing BTC higher, if there is any type of calamitous event, confiscation of wealth, or something like that.

Same comment from the wall thread for me.   I think it drives money into alternatives (including stocks/bonds/gold/silver).   Betting that bitcoins are one of those alternatives.

I believe the bail in will largely affect stagnant money (sitting in cash accounts earning little/no interest).   Shame on those who don't inject their cash into volatile/scary/complex things :).

I dont believe it will have noticable effect next year, considering the time these measures will be set

Cyprus came out of nowhere - it has to to work. Don't trust anything.

Precisely. Remember, that after the Cyprus bail-in there was the whole scandal about policy maker families being tipped off ahead of time and withdrawing funds? A bail-in does not come with a heads up, or else there will be a run on banks that forces the bankruptcy they are trying to avoid. If EU is saying 2016, I would interpret that to mean "definitely before 2016."
