Title: I ain't never been no newbie
Post by: dreward on December 12, 2013, 10:49:59 PM
:D I find it quite funny to be a newbie. I have been in the IT business for over 30 years and I have always been an early adopter (actually I have been mining BC for over 2 years I just never bothered posting anything until now). Most of what I want to say related directly to posts in other threads so...
One general comment tho. Has anyone notices the crazy prices that 1GH goes for on cex.io, seems insane. There is no way to make your money back unless the difficulty growth rate falls to around 14% which seems unlikely. Hell my old BFL single sc is worth $2,400 at those prices. As I said CRAZY

Have fun and mine safely!

Two years of Bitcoin mining  :o That's insane. SO how many could you mine in that period?

Welcome to the forum friend, Glad to have you join the boards.  I see you a newb so here is the rundown, don't be scared it's not that confusing.  The rules are you need to make 15 points for and activity total then your account will be in line for upgrade.  it's just that simple :)  I have a feeling your going to fit right in around here, cheers!

Buttefly Labs prices are kinda expensive aswell. As far as i can see, if you can't buy more than 100 GH\s you won't make any profit with the difficulty grow we have right now.

Agreed mining at less that 100mhs at the moment is still profitable but getting less so, certainly not proffitable enough to support a pizza buying habit. I have about 1.8 TH of equipment due in the next 60 days (fingers crossed) two separate suppliers... we shall see. I think the useful life of a miner is 6 to 12 months maximum unless something changes radically on the difficulty growth rates

:D I've been in IT for quite a few years myself. If you're always learning/experimenting, you're always a newbie! But the newbieness maybe doesn't last as long as it once did. Unlike dreward, though, I've just started mining over the last few weeks. Always a blast learning new things. Not here to get filthy rich overnight, just learning and having fun, and if i squeak a little profit out of it that's cool too.

So why all these restrictions on new users? New user is not the same as newbie. You made another spam subforum that uses resources and database. Very smart approach.

I agree that it is very patronising.

welcome dreward. I agree the prices of mining equipment is way too high right now, I think it's just because we're seeing a large amount of new people finding out about bitcoin. At work the other day a guy started asking me all about mining and showing me this miner that was to come out early 2014. I warned him against pre ordering and in the end he didn't buy it and I think his interest is lost.

I would prefer donating some amount of coin to avoid this five post thing.
Spammers would too if they wanted to fill this forum with crap.

Spammers only spam when it's free. Nobody is gonna get charged so one can spam.

Shit happens. If the donation wasn't too big, they might risk it.

Most new users are newbies. We don't want them asking stupid questions in other forums. Don't worry we were all newbies once. Just click around the forums while doing something more productive. Also see the stickies. The readme is worth reading especially the bit about email notifications.
