Title: First Rig Need Help -- 2x 5830, Running Linuxcoin
Post by: Crypt_Current on August 13, 2011, 09:10:17 PM
So I finally have enough working hardware put together to start mining.  It's 2x 5830s with an Athlon x2 and 2GB RAM.  No HDD / optical as of yet.

I have found the linuxcoin howto and have downloaded the necessary files and I still have to find a flash drive big enough to put those on.

My concern now is -- Where do I go for the proper drivers for the 5830s under linuxcoin?  And also, where do I go for the actual mining software to run under linuxcoin?

I believe both drivers and miners are included.

Well if that's the case... that's a whole bunch of awesome.  My brother is giving me a 16GB flash drive soon, hopefully it's bootable and I can get this rock rolling...

Linuxcoin has been quick to setup for me (the AMD SDK, Catalyst 11.6, drivers, all miner software already installed).  Running it with the 2GB persistence file is nice.

Also, another thing (called atitweak) that was written by a forum member here (mjmvisser) is useful for overclocking via linux command line.
It's basically a wrapping for the AMD Overdrive functionality, and offers extended functionality (downclocking graphics memory, etc) to the aticonfig command line utility.

Thanks for all the help everyone!  I check these forums daily ... I am probably going to be able to tinker with the mining rig sometime this weekend and hopefully get it mining.  Dang overtime at work getting in the way :-/  if only they'd pay me in btc
