Thanks Yep, don't use bitcoin-qt. Use electrum, it "syncs" in about 10 seconds because it doesn't download the blockchain. Do you really need to download the whole blockchain? If so, as you are finding out, you are getting ready for a world of pain unless you have an ultra-fast internet connection. and don't forget the blockchain size is increasingly massively every month so if you have to re-download it, which seems to happen frequently, the time to download will increase exponentially. Title: Re: Fast wallet Sync Post by: spin on December 13, 2013, 12:10:50 PM If you have another pc on your LAN/wifi that already has a copy of the blockchain you could make sure your new pc/install sync's to that by adding -addnode or connect to the config or command line. That way you don't download the same info from the internet twice.

Any computer connected to the Internet is at risk of being infected with something. That's why ultimately coins should be stored offline. But if you are asking what's a good client for "day to day" use, electrum is your answer. If you want to have much money in BTC, store them on offline hard drive (just put file there and disconnect hard drive from PC). Sadly, there's no way to speed-up synchro in Btc-qt on Windows (only on OSX its possible). If you want to use wallet still connected to net, look on blockchain.info Regards. Thanks Go to electrum.org to find out how it works and there is also a sub-forum here dedicated to it. I've used it for 10 months now without any serious issues. Nothing is 100% safe, but its a lot safer than leaving your coins on a website somewhere. |
