INTRODUCING RIGHTSLEDGER: RightsLedger is a platform that connects independent content-creators and small-scale content distributors in a new global marketplace. By shifting the power dynamic of the entertainment industry from the corporations to independent markets, small-time producers are able to reach an audience that was never accessible before. An independent film producer will be able to license their work to a variety of different content distributors, in an automated, transparent, and permissionless marketplace. Local bus lines can access media that was previously unavailable; Indie movie theaters can premiere films that would have otherwise been forgotten; music playlist curators can access hosts of new musicians and musical genres that previously never had a marketplace. By cutting out the middleman found in the legacy entertainment industries, RightsLedger is able to provide inexpensive media to consumers while also provide fair compensation to content producers for their work. ____________________ One-Pager https://www.rightsledger.io/rightsledger-one-sheet.pdf ____________________ THE PROBLEM Large Distributors Own The Market The entertainment industry is heavily reliant on intermediaries, or middlemen, to get content distributed. With distributors in the middle, indie filmmakers and musicians don’t have access to the broader markets that the larger distributors are focused on. There is also a lack of transparency between the distributors and creators. Slow and Expensive Payments International opportunities are can be difficult and expensive for content creators. Trying to get paid between countries can require several intermediaries. Payments can take up to several months to reach content creators. Archaic Rights Management Technology Most right management platforms are too slow and expensive for most indie creators to deal with. Selling directly to buyers requires a complex and robust rights management platform which is often just out of reach of your typical creator. The Social Media Ilusion Unless content is getting millions of views, the creators cut of placing a piece of content on social media is often insignificant. Social Media platforms often lure content creators with the promise of a “worldwide audience” at the cost of signing away the rights. THE OPPORTUNITY RightsToken is a new digital token for the RightsLedger ecosystem. Content creators and buyers can either purchase RightsTokens or earn them by contributing to the RightsLedger ecosystem. The rewards system helps encourage new content and more license deals, which makes the whole ecosystem more valuable for everyone. Combined with smart contracts, RightsTokens also enable fast, affordable, and global payments. Instead of waiting months for the payment to cross international borders, content creators receive their RightsTokens immediately after the buyer sends them. And with no intermediaries, the only cost is the relatively small blockchain transfer fee. This direct interaction means distributors pay less and content creators make more. Since the smart contract contains the license terms, it can even revoke rights if the buyer doesn’t pay on time. With the transparency of a blockchain, content creators can easily prove the license term violation and their entitlement to resell or relicense those rights. ____________________ TOKEN RIGHTSTOKEN ECOSYSTEM The RightsToken (RT), the digital token for the RightsLedger Universe, has several functions within the ecosystem: Payment method for purchasing content rights Transaction fee paid to RightsLedger from every licensing deal Payment method for purchasing Premium or Third Party Services Reward for users that take specific actions that encourage growth of the ecosystem ____________________ TOKEN SALE Information coming soon: Please stay tuned to this thread and our Telegram channel for the most immediate updates. ___________________ TEAM Founders CEO Ray Young & CTO Richard Gunawan The RightsLedger team has decades of combined experience providing technology solutions to the media and entertainment industry. I've seen projects like this, but they haven't been able to capitalize. Hi usercryptomany and thanks for the question. We currently haven't found any direct competitors. There are many companies out there that sound like they could be competitors, but most are pure distribution and monetization plays through aggregated channels or new platforms for content consumption, which are at the end of the media supply chain. These types of companies would be valuable for us to partner with rather than compete with. RightsLedger differentiates itself in a few ways: We are focused on the beginning of the media supply chain - authentication, registration, and tracking of media rights. We have a background in the entertainment industry and developing rights management technology - and this technology is expensive and completely offline/back-office currently. Without rights management, content creators will never be able to fully monetize their work and distribution platforms will not be able to truly prevent unlicensed content from being added on their platform. In another effort to prevent piracy (as opposed to introducing more after-the-fact solutions), we are creating a proprietary digital fingerprint technology which we'll be able to partner with distribution platforms to help protect creators. On the distribution end, we are partnering with traditional distribution channels and digital distribution channels to help creators actually make money while working directly with the licensees. Currently, creators often work with distributors, publishers, record labels, etc. to enter new markets and distribution channels and are lucky to receive 30% of what their content is actually sold for. Let me know if you have any other questions! Why do you expect that creators will start work with you? How you gonna reach this? People are distrustful of new schemes and prefer proven methods. Great question GrandBcn -- it's very understandable for people to be distrustful of new methods. Creators understand the problems they face within the entertainment industry and a many of them are looking for solutions or platforms that can help fix them. We expect them to use our platform because we're actively engaging with film and music creators at every opportunity possible and they are all excited to use our platform when its fully launched. For example, we had a booth and hosted a panel event with our CEO and other industry experts at the ASCAP Expo earlier this week (May 7 - 9), and our CEO and Director of Bus Dev left to France on May 8th for the Cannes Film Festival where our CEO was on a panel discussion about blockchain for rights management in the film industry. Through engaging with creators as often as possible, we're also able to understand their problems better and cater our platform to address them. As for gaining trust of creators, it helps that our founders have been developing software for the entertainment industry (and adopted by major studios including Paramount, Disney, MGM, and Sony) for over 20 years and launched a centralized digital content rights management marketplace in 2016. Also, RightsLedger already has applications that are launched (in alpha testing) with blockchain integrated functionality. Let me know if you have any other questions! |
