Title: Hello i'm new and eager to learn
Post by: Pantagruel on December 13, 2013, 12:32:30 PM
Hello,

I am new to this forum and eager to learn.
Reading the Newbies section i understand that many are here to make a quick buck. I don't know how it could happen, being so late in the party, so i will first focus on trying to understand bitcoin.

So i have a question : what is the best exchange in your opinion and why ?

I like the ones that get "hacked" and steal their clients coins.

They're the best for comedy purposes.

I think you probably want to buy Bitcoins from CoinBase and Altcoins from Cryptsy!  ;D

Welcome to the forum :)

There are lots of good exchanges, but don't store coins on them long term or use them as a wallet alternative, several have gone down or been hacked. Just some friendly advice. :)

I would recommend if you can to buy and hold.. many people have lost a lot of money doing day trade..

Many people speculate that Bitcoin will reach at least $10,000 per coin! So you can't go wrong holding them.. (unless they colapse to 0  ;) )

Thank you all for your help.

So Coinbase and Bitstamp seem to lead this topic. Nobody talked about Mtgox, i thought this was the first exchange ?

In my experience I've found coinbase to be pretty good. They do make you jump through a bunch of hoops and wait a bit to get your bitcoins, but after a month from your first purchase you can make instant purchases.

Selling coins from them is pretty good as well, though I have experienced some delays, but nowhere near what other exchanges can subject you too.

It seems like they use bitstamp's prices with a little bit of a delay.

MtGox has been subjected to a lot of scrutiny by US regulators and as I understand it, it's hard to use with dollars these days.

Coinbase takes couple days for you to buy and sell coins, approx 4~5 days.

And, You need to submit your driver's license image, utilities bill image in order to trade........ in Mtgox.
Because Uncle Sam wants to know what (how) are you doing.. ::)

I am also new to bitcoin. I am planning on purchasing a Black Arrow X-3 miner. Not sure whether to purchase directly from Black Arrow or from minersource.net which appears to be the official US reseller. Its like 200 dollars cheaper to buy from minersource.net but I am unsure if it makes a difference whether I order from them or Black Arrow. Any advice would be appreciated.
